Personally I enjoyed Toy Story, watched it with the kids. great. This sequel is the only sequel I can ever remember which is actually better than the original film.
Why?
Well the adult-orientated humour is more prominent in this one, which keeps it interesting for mum and dad. I'ts also got brilliant special effects - not really surpassed even in later movies I'd say.
Great action sequences - rescuing Woody from his predicament gives us a great, well I'm tempted to call it a car chase, but that wouldn't strictly be accurate.
The use of all CGI just as this technology was really starting to work makes this work brilliantly. it's got plenty of slapstick moments to amuse the small children, and plenty of puns for the grown ups.
Andy who owns the toys goes off to summer camp at the start of the movie, and the toys start having fun. woody discovers he's a collectible and has to chose between living with his beloved Andy, or being behind glass in a Japanese museum, admired, but not interacted with.
The introduction of a marvellous villain (think a male version of Cruella de Ville) in the guise of Al McWhiggen, and evil toy collector, and then you have all the elements for a classic children' adventure. So Buzz Lightyear leads the toys in setting off to rescue Woody.
All the great actors of Toy Story one are back doing the voices - Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Kelsey Grammer, Don Rickles, Jim Varney ...
The quality of the acting combined with the animation makes this a near perfect film,. Yes, really. it's just a joy. Like when the toys break into a toy store and meet Barbie for the first time - a cultural mars/venus experience ensues which is probably funnier for adults than for kids, though they were rolling around in hysterics.
You can watch this over and over and over, so if you haven't bought this on DVD and you have children under ten, or an equivalent intellectual level, then you MUST own this.
Simply outstanding. Amazing to think it was made ten years ago, and still hasn't been beaten.
You can buy it still in places like Woolworths usually for around £9.99, though it can be more, and is rarely less, as it is a perennial favourite now. This special edition is a two disk thingy which to be honest isn't worth paying extra for as my children just want to watch he movie, over and over again
