Review: A remarkable portrait... unmissable. The reaction of those who have seen the film has been one of stunned amazement. (Classical Music Magazine, 28/09/2006)
Tony Palmer's towering portrait of 83 year-old Malcolm Arnold is one of those rare overwhelming films that capture the trajectory of an artist's life and personality - and what a personality - while paying homage to the immensity of their creative achievement. This complex, sad and subtle profile looks set, quite rightly, to win every award going. (The Times, 28/09/2006)
Advantages: Great Effects, Story Disadvantages: NONE!!
...The granddaddy of the creature and horror genre, Predator made a mark in history that like never before, made in 1987 this success story was based on pure action and a structure second to none. This movie made the break for Arnold Schwarzenegger and if it was for this you never know maybe Arnold never would get a contract for T2 and wouldn’t be governor of such a huge economy today.
It was all about Arnold and his team of elite warriors who were selected for a rescue and assault mission in Vietnam. Now other force could do this because Arnold’s troops were state of the art in terms of training, weaponry, tactics, you name it!
The way Arnold’s boys moved it would be inevitable that they would be back without any casualties but there was one thing they forgot to see: Predator! An alien creature from another planet that landed on earth...

Advantages: Good Extra’s, Good Film Disadvantages: Absolutely none
...the dead, everywhere, all the time, and what’s more they talk to him.
Its a rather sad film, until you reach the end, with two or three ongoing threads. The first with Malcolm and his wife who were happy and very much in love, until the day he was shot, and has since been racked with guilt. They barely speak or see each other, and Malcolm watches in despair as his wife spirals downwards into depression. The second is with Malcolm and Cole, Malcolm needs Cole to trust him so he can help both himself and Cole, but with a condition such as Cole’s its not easy, the third is with Cole and his mother, who is doing the best to cope with a problem child and Cole doing the best to survive, despite the problems his ‘gift’ causes.
There are some brilliant pieces in this film, a similar aged child who appears in Cole’s...

Advantages: Classic Schwarznegger lines and action Disadvantages: A no brainer
...hear a sweet female voice telling us we can get bonus credits for reporting those needing "re-education"; double credit is offered for family members! Ben Richards (Arnold Schwarznegger) is a military officer who is called to investigate a riot in the Bakersfield region of California. He refuses, as ordered, to open fire on the unarmed crowd, and is summarily knocked cold by his comrades and then framed for the massacre. To use one of Arnold's famous lines, 'big mistake!'.
In his subsuquent escape from prison he finds himself under the attention of Damon Killian (Richard Dawson) the game show host of The Running Man, the most popular show of all time. This game show is an oppurtunity for life time convicts to get a possibility at 're-trial, trial by jury or full pardon' by surviving the Stalkers across a vast game zone. Comically, Richard...
