I love Top Gear,I've been watching for about 3 years now,and probably will watch it till its death day. Im a big fan of cars too,and have never minded the fact that they tend to forget that the rest of us cant afford Ferraris and Porsches!
I must admit, that im pretty fond of all the presenters too,and think their all gorgeus in their own unique way! So for me,buying a d.v.d with 2 and a half hours of cars and those three..well it was a dream!
THE CHALLENGES,came out in June this year and I bought in in early August, costing me 14.00p from W.H.SMITH. Although now you can get it for alot cheaper.
When I heard the words 'Top Gear-The Challenges', my first thought was about the challenge they had done in America, where they had to paint anti-southern slogans on their cars. That was really a cracker of a challenge, but much to my dissapointment,it wasnt included, which I thought
was mad.
I also expected to see a few other challenges, owing to the fact that the d.v.d was 'THE CHALLENGES',for example the challenge where they re-surfaced a road in 24 hours. However this was also not included, much to my dissapointment.
Saying that though,I knew this when I looked at the dvd in the shop, but still bought it,due to the fact that it still looked great.
All together, there are 8 challenges on this dvd. They are:
Amphibious cars:this was the challenge were the boys must make a car into a boat and drive it across a two mile stretch of water. The cars include a Triumph Herald and an invincible 'Toyota Hilux' One of my favourites of the challenges. 10/10
70's Super Cars: The presenters must buy an Italian Mid engined Super Car for less than 10,000 pounds and drive it to a lap dancing club in Slough.Cars include a Ferrari Dino and a Lambo Merak. 10/10
Reliant Robin Space Shuttle: Hamster and May make a shuttle out of a reliant and see what happens. 9/10
Limo:The lads must make a normal car into a Limo, with some interesting ideas! Then they must chauffer a 'celeb' to the Brit Awards. Cars include a Fiat Panda. 10/10
Renault Espace: Here they attempt to make a normal espace into something more exciting...a convertible. With some very funny consequences! 10/10
Parkour vs Peugeot: James races some lads who do 'building jumping' as a hobby to the Liver Building in the heart of Liverpool. 7/10
Bugatti Veyron: Hamster and May use Planes,Trains and Buses to race across Europe against Jeremy in an extremely fast and powerful Veyron. 10/10 and finally...
Red Devils: Hammond races a parachutist, while he drives a Porsche Cayenne against the clock. 7/10
All of these are great challenges, however everytime I watch this dvd I find myself skipping scenes so that I can watch the Limo,Super cars,Amphibious and Convertible Espace challenges. I generally find these particular challenges funnier and more in depth. I also find that the other challenges are alot shorter in length and generally I feel that they have been put in just to fill out the time.
The dvd would in my opinion have been alot more better in quality if challenges such as the AMERICAN and the ROAD RE-SURFACING had been put in,instead of 'fillers'.
However its still a great dvd, full of laughs and cars. I enjoy the challenges because there very light hearted, however to alot of people they dont achully review the cars. I know that this is a problem to some, but its stil worth a watch if you are a fan of Top Gear.
One of the other problems I have with the dvd is that the challenges are split up. By this I mean that half way through a challenge,it just cuts off and goes onto another, for it then to return after a different challenge. I suppose this is to break up the challenges so people dont get bored, but to me its just annoying, because I find myself skipping scenes just to get to the challenge I was watching previously.
In terms of extras, this dvd has none! Not a single extra, which I would have expected from the Top Gear lads, however the content is still good and in my opinion worth the money.
I know that 14.00p may seem alot to pay,but if you like Top Gear and want two and a half hours of laughs, the top gear lads and cars, then its well worth the money.

Great op. Not keen on the splits, but then again thats how they were initially filmed and screened. No doubt another DVD will be released. Possibly Holiday Challenges as a name since they all abroad and it bit like a busmen's holiday for all of them!

I do like Top Gear but would never call Clarckson fit, lol! Not sure I'd buy it on DVD though as its always repeated on TV. The sort of thing I wouldn't mind getting as a surprise bday pressie or something! Great review!

Seven fantastic challenges that test the mettle of the Top Gear team. The Top Gear boys - ... more
Jezzer, Hamster and Captain Slow - can do brake-horsepowers, torques and 0-60s until the pumps run dry. But when they take on a challenge, the action gets competit...
Advantages: 3 hours, all you'd expect from the team, purely challenges nothing else Disadvantages: Ripped straight from regular episodes, each challenge entwined, no extras
