Derring do aplenty as always. Terrible Johnny Foreigner trying to take over the world from foreign parts and brave James Bond has to stop him and stop him good.
Give me a break. There is always the subtext that it isn't so much what is done by the bad guy as where he is from. Ever notice that about Bond films?
We have Dr. No the evil oriental. Goldfinger who is a British citizen but he's really a German. And what about this? Of course we all know that it is based on the 'evil' Rupert Murdoch.
Terrible isn't it? Imagine large sections of the British media being under the control of one man. Something that was never the case of course before Murdoch (tongue firmly in cheek).
I always seem to end up watching these films because I am in someone else's house when they are on. Big budget, special effects laden, all American rubbish is what it would be called if it was a USA not so secret agent.
Still, at least it's realistic. I'm sure there are many products of the public schools in MI6 who are daily saving the world. Quite why the NATO powers have such huge armed forces in beyond me. They should just call up MI6 and ask them to set the world to what they see as rights.
Stick Rambo in a suit and give him less of a musculature. Hey presto! It's James Bond. No, it's the gadgets that make him different. Yes, they appeal to that garden shed boffin mentality don't they?
Sorry, but I don't fall for this drivel. It's end of Empire wish fulfillment.
