Tom Cruise - Legend/All The Right Moves/T.A.P.S./ (Box Set)

Advantages: Dreamy - one to watch with your girlfriend
Disadvantages: Last scene is a bit cheesy

...Legend starring Tom Cruise, Mia Sara and, allegedly, Gates Mcfadden of Star Trek TNG fame is a fairy tale of the purest type. Mia stars as a Princess (called Lily if I remember rightly), although we learn nothing more of her Royal life, in love with a simple forest dweller called Jack (Tom Cruise) in an enchanted forest that looks like heaven itself. What Mr Cruise doesn't realise is that in addition to his attentions the delightful Princess is also being pursued...although unknowingly...by the Prince of Darkness himself. This underlying darkness runs throughtout the film although you are sometimes only aware of it in retrospect. Jack takes the Princess to see a pair of Unicorns and all is going swimmingly until she decides to touch one...this apparently being very bad news. ...This 1983 American Football film was one of Tom Cruise's earlier outings. It touches on the pressures of a young football player and the effects of working in mines. The Plot Stefen Djordjevic is a high school footballer with dreams. His attempts to win a scholarship are met with defiance from his family and his coach. Set in a steel town in Western Pennsylvania, Djordjevic finds a clash between his desires and those of his coach could be the end of the player's dreams. The Cast and Performances Tom Cruise plays an all american sports star very well. The innocence and arroagnce of youth comes forward very well in his portrayal of Stefen. Craig T Nelson is the hard nosed coach aiming for promotion, and Lea Thompson provides the love interest. The supporting cast give a solid but unmemorable performance, as Cruise and Nelson command... Advantages: Good action

...This sounded like a very bad idea. Update one of the great spy TV shows to a modern setting. However, it's done quite well. This is mainly due to Tom Cruise's ability to play a humane spy. At times it gets quite complicated but Cruise is very watchable as Ethan Hunt as well as performing some spectacular action scenes. This film has all the right ingredients of a blockbuster - a good cast, memorable action sequences and a good script. The finale on the high-speed train is breathtaking. The film sounds perfect, using widescreen to great effect, plus there's a decent trailer to accompany it. A great action film that has shown that Cruise can still deliver that quality action movie that we first saw in Top Gun... Read review
