Titanic. One of the best films put together based upon non-fiction with the love story added. The speicla edition two disc DVD has even more spectacular features.
The film itself is based upon the Tittanic striking a huge iceberg in 1912. A lower class person manages to blag his way on to the maiden voyage of the grandest and largest ship in the world, Titanic. Once on the ship he finds himself interested in someone of a much higher class than him but this does not stop him from attempting to gain her interest and ends up saving her life. The ships journey continues as does the blossoming romance until the ships dark fate is unleashed.
The casting of the characters is brilliant. Kate Winslet ( Rose) plays the role of an upper class woman tremondously well as Leonardo Dicaprio (Jack) plays his role of a lower class citizen who is a typical lady's man just as good. After seeing this film with those two being the main casting roles I don't think i would be able to watch it with others playing them as they are suited to their roles so well it is amazing.
The special features on this DVD set is more than you could imagine. There are three different commentaries in which the stars and filmakers offer their opinions and insights on the making of the Titanic. These are not overly exciting however they are interesting if you have the extra time. There are 61 all-new, revealing behind the scenes which is perfect for anyone who is interested in knowing the makings of films as these ones are truly fascinating. The music video of Celione Dion's powerful song "My heart will go on" is also featured on these extra features which caputures the clip of Rose being on the front of the Titanic with Jack. There is also another feature of the alternate 9 minute-ending. This may interest some of you, but for me it was a letdown. I didn't like the ending as it gave away the sense of mystery, however you will have to watch to see if you agree with me.
The length of the film is 186 minutes. Being over three hours you may think it would get extremly boring but due to it's gripping features it is actually possible to sit down for the full film and remain involved in the strong love story.
The age on this film is a 12 1which I think is appropiate as there is only moderate sex, nudity and horror as well as one use of strong language.
Well worth a buy for the film itself as it is gripping and the extra features as most are interesting and worth a watch and being good value for money considering the amount of extras added, so if you are interested in extras I recommend this 2 disc DVD set if not, go for the one disc with just the film.
