Animations, well they're for kids aren't they?, I mean adults don't watch cartoons because, well, um, thats just stupid........ is it?, in my opinion no - see you can get to see a good movie that doesn't have to have the latest top star naked in it (but it helps), so then Titan AE, where shall I begin, hmmmmmmm?
Now then you see, why should I be so anxious to watch a cartoon, well I am a big kid after all, but mainly because of the talk of how well animated this movie was thanks to the amount of CGI used in making it, and to watch the movie you can see theres a lot of work been done here, but I digress a quick look into what the movies about shall we? I think we shall.
Starting in the year 3028 Earth is being attacked by an evil alien race named the Drej and guess what - the Drej are winning (well it wouldn´t be a decent movie if we were winning straight from the start now would it?), anyway we cut to a father and his son rushing to leave the planet before the Drej explode it, next thing we know they´re going their seperate ways and we see the planet explode, In a very Independence Day-style.
Jump 15 years to the future and we meet Cale who was that young boy, hes headstrong now and to be honest a bit of a jerk, hes working for an alien company now and the work conditions aren´t great, just when it seems life can´t get any worse Cale gets accosted by 2 aliens hoping to make him their next meal, out of nowhere Cale receives help from an unknown man, who claims to have known Cale´s father. Quick chat with this man reveals his name as Korso and talks of a ship called Titan that could save whats left of the Human race from the Drej, now we´ve got a mission but also you lot have the jist of where the storyline is going so theres going to be no more storytelling from me.
Now then - this is a cartoon, it doesn´t have a proper cast-list does it? we have voice-overs but no actors as such so lets have a looksie at some of the characters (along with which big name star voiced the character as well - if there was a big-name star).
We´ve already met Cale who was voiced by Matt Damon so hes not going to get much of a write-up, as I said hes headstrong but hes also passionate about anything he sets his mind to and hey the guy even reminds me a little bit of yours truly if truth be known, so of course hes just the greatest character ever made!
Then theres Korso who tries to be a father-figure for Cale, this one voiced by Bill Pullman (of Independence Day fame), this ones been trying to find the Titan for a long time si is as you would expect anxious to get this mission over with, but hes also a little quiet for a leader character and we learn more about him a little later into the film, but to tell you what would spoil the story so lets just leave it at quiet eh?
Now then - new character time, Akima voiced by Drew Barrymore shes the only main female character so guess what peeps - thats right, shes the love interest, as with all action-style movies, shes a fighter and as independent as any character could get - guess what though, shes a good character, adding another dimension to the movie and making it possible for the movie to effortlessly shift from one storyline to another.
Then theres Stith, shes an alien so doesn´t count as a possible love-interest which is further endorsed by the fact that Janeane Garoffolo provides the voice, this is your resident weapons expert, and she likes nothing better than exploding things, the weakest character in the storyline it has to be said, but still a strong enough character to keep the movie going.
Gune voiced by John Leguizamo provides most of the humour in the movie - hes the diminutive alien inventor who no matter how daft he seems is always right, lots of comedy moments best one has to be the quote "whos your daddy, Gunes your daddy!" whilst attacking the Drej, this guy is what the movie is all about, its all good fun and he is one of the best characters I´ve seen in a long time! (although not as good as Cale)
Theres the main characters for you, nice aren´t they, and the storylines not that bad either - it goes along at a decent pace and theres never any time when you sit back wondering why something happened, every part has a meaning to the end story so this makes this film something that I personally found very easy to sit back and watch.
There is a bit of a soundtrack main song is `over my head´ by the little known American Pop-Rock quartet Lit and a sampling of `With arms wide open´ by Creed, with this being an action (yes action not kids) movie these are the sort of songs you´d expect and theres always something going on on screen that requires a bit of background music so its never forced and always seems relevant to whats happening on screen.
But how can I analyze the location of the movie when there obviously aren´t any? Easy I´m not going to....... see instead what about the work thats obviously gone into the animation of the cartoon, there are scenes that are simply stunning to watch and obviously must have taken a lot of man-hours to produce, so credit has to be given to everyone behind the movie and even though the box-office earnings didn´t make as much as expected, I personally hope that anybody considering making a cartoon doesn´t get too disheartened by it all.
So there you go - its a cartoon and I like it, I like it a lot, I may be the only one on this planet who does but then thats everybody elses loss not mine, but we really ought to consider renaming Earth `Bob´ you know.
Advantages: great film, stroy and cast Disadvantages: none
...think of Disney. But Titan AE is a cartoon brought to you through 20th Century Fox, and is a real treat of a cartoon to watch. It has a more adult feel to it than Disney cartoons, it has a more real feel to the film, rather than the Disney kind of fairy tail feel.
~~The Cast~~
This film has got a very good cast; it seemed to attract some of the best actor and actresses in Hollywood to lend their voices to the characters in the film. The actors ... ...a quest to find the Titan (the spaceship that will save humanity). Chased by the Drej while trying to find the Titan Cale and Akima find out that Korso is being paid by the Drej to betray them so that they can destroy the Titan. In the end, when Korso finds out that he was going to get nothing he sacrifices his life so that the Titan can be saved. At the end of the film you find out what the Drej were so scared of that they had to destroy the Earth, ...

Advantages: Good special effects, basically a good story Disadvantages: Lots of plot holes, poorly targeted
...the movie's plot Titan A.E. is a fun movie. I enjoyed it thorough, despite being well outside the demographic to which this sort of movie was intended to appeal.

Don’t do any heavy analysis on the plot on this one. It won’t stand up to expert scrutiny. But it is a reasonably good tale. The earth has encountered a powerful enemy which threatens, and eventually does, destroy the planet. During the course earth’s destruction, ... ...being the son of the Titan commander, contains within himself (unbeknownst to himself) the key to locating the Titan. Thus, the cosmic chase is on! Befriended by some who try to help, relentless pursued by the dastardly alien foes, the Drej, betrayed by those he trusted, he finally finds the Titan. Will he be able figure out the key to its operation before its destruction? Will he be able to save the human race?

Advantages: A bit of an overlooked minor classic Disadvantages: Feels like it could have been better
Spectacular visuals (the ice field, in particular, is stunning) weren't enough to guarantee success for this expensive project that saw the end of 20th Century-Fox's attempt at prestige animation before it had even really begun. Shame, as this is approaching a minor classic and may be the closest Hollywood animation ever got to live-action presentation. If you like anime, science-fiction, action or animation in general, this is for you.

Then Korso shows up, a space pirate, he tells Cale about the Titan and activates the ring that Cales father gave him, it contains a map to the location of the Titan, but will only display it on Cales hand!

The Voices for the charators were spot on, and as for a choise for a bad guy (or bad race) the drej were fantastic and origainal, i would love a sequal to this movie but i think the plot might suffer a touch as it is very nicely wraped up at the end of the film...but if they came ...

Advantages: Wonderful animation, plot and characters. The soundtrack is also very good and worth buying. Disadvantages: The fact that this movie was sent to the cinemas over the Internet hyped over the the real quality of the animation.
...wanted to do something special. Titan AE is a cartoon. Titan AE was another attempt by Fox to try and break Disney’s stranglehold of animated movies. “Is Titan AE any good?” asked some girl in the flat I was currently making myself known in. I turned to her boyfriend with the ~What is she talking about?~ look on my face. I turned back and said, “Yes, it’s really great.”
“But, but I thought it was a cartoon.” she said. I gave her boyfriend the look ... ...labelled “For Kids” but in Titan AE’s case and in many others, this couldn’t be more wrong. Oh, children may very well enjoy Titan AE but that doesn’t mean we, the mature and experience Ciao community, will not enjoy it either.
The action begins right at the very start with the evacuation of Earth. The little kid we have been following is, at the last minutes, scooped up and out of harms way by his father - who seems to be important in the military ...

DVD Description
Spectacular animation, combining two- and three-dimensional techniques with stunning special effects, is TITAN A.E.'s mark of distinction. Directors Don Bluth and Gary Goldman (ANASTASIA) make their first foray into science fiction with this film, which is the first U.S.-produced animated science fiction film in more than 20 years. The story is a classic bildungsroman, following the journey of Cale, a young man who holds the destiny of humankind in his hand--literally. Opening with the stunning destruction of earth as seen from space, the film launches the audience into a seamlessly imagined universe in which the alien Drej have turned humans into homeless emigres, searching desperately for a new world. Cale (voiced by Matt Damon) is haunted by the legacy of his father, who abandoned him but created the spaceship Titan, which holds the key to the new home of humankind. With the plan for Titan imprinted in his hand, Cale is swept from a life of lonely drudgery devoid of female companionship into the colorful crew of mysterious Captain Korso (voiced by Bill Pullman). On the Valkyrie ship, Cale enjoys Korso's crew, including the kind, beautiful, and expert woman pilot Akima (voiced by Drew Barrymore) along with a strange but fascinating band of aliens.
