Tim Buckley - A Review and Critique of the Man and His Music is a documentary film ... more
reviewing the music and career of one of America's most influential artists, composers and vocalists. Despite Buckley's tragic early death at the age of just 28, his leg...
Advantages: A wide scoping double CD album Disadvantages: Misses his more experimental work
As many of you may know I'm a big admirer of Jeff Buckley, Tim's son. Though they shared little of their life time together, they shared some remarkable traits (they looked almost identical, and both were blessed with musical ability that was almost inhuman), as well as a tragic end, Jeff Drowned, Tim Od'd on Heroin both with many years ahead of them.
Despite this both have legacy's that still hold strong today, and here is evidence of Tim's, this 2 disk 33 anthology of his work, dating from his 1966 debut album "TimBuckley" through to his 1972 album "Greetings from L.A.". (Missing 2 of Tim's studio albums out altogether, in Sefronia (1973) and Look at the Fool (1974)).
So a track by track review of 33 songs would get boring (trust me, after around 15 songs they become boring to write, so doubtless boring to read), so instead I ...
Advantages: So many fantastic songs Disadvantages: Could use more liner notes.
Whenever I am in a really lousy mood or have just suffered a bad day I put Sam Cooke: The Man and HisMusic into my CD player and let this gifted and truly remarkable singer/songwriter have his melodic way with me.
Sam Cooke was trully one of the leading and groundbreaking artists in the music industry. It is hismusic that leaves the most impression, however, truly proving that music, its construction from being written to being sung, is one of the most divine artforms on this sad little planet. Sam Cooke was nothing less than a genius. Not only did he create the difinitive versions of any song he wrote but also turned his gift to the works of others, making them his own.
On this wonderful CD we are given some of Cooke's finest moments. There is not one bad song on the album and I can hum every single tune. I am sad when each ...
Advantages: Lyircal completeness, 2 albums in one Disadvantages: Not everyone likes this sort of thing
I wrote a review for "Goodbye and hello" as a stand-alone album but then saw this one Ciao, so I've copied my review of that as well as written a review of the first part of the album taken from TimBuckley, his first album. Both these albums have the story telling magic of lyricist/poet Larry Beckett, and the vocal's and musical wizardry of TimBuckley.
Tim's music was (early in his career) knwon for a strong and atheletic voice capable of reaching any high's or low's, and is said to have had a 5 octave voice.
