The trouble with buying is that the box always looks better than whats inside. My son when he was one had the right idea. Throw the toy away and play with the box.

I am a fan of the old Thunderbirds and grew2 up loving them but now that I'm older I find the effects rather primitive. They were good for their time though and still is great entertainment although its a little apst it now. So when I heard Thunderbirds was hitting the big screen I was quite excited but none the less worried that this update would be dissapointing.
I had no need to worry on the special effects front , the main stars were updated without taking away their magic. Thunderbirds 1,2 and 3 look as good as the originals but updated without losing their character. Some of the smaller craft though need to be looked at again as they don't look as impressive. One of the main dissappointments was the loss of the pink Rolls Royce unfortunatley a Ford just does not have the presteige and looks out of place in an English Country mansion so I give rasps to Rolls Royce for not allowing the use of their marque. It was a fair attempt to produce something special.
At the end of the day if you are not a Thunderbirds fan then you will not notice the difference. Unfortunatly though the story line in one word is plain and lacks imagination. Yes we do have the bad guy the Thunderbirds arch enemy the Hood but part of the fun of the Thunderbirds episodes was the fact that he was never caught but foiled at every attempt to get at the Thunderbirds. I won't spoil the plot but basically he goes right over the top in waht can only be called an all or nothing assault. In fact international rescue did very little rescues and had a great deal of trouble rescuing themselves. There was also the lack of reality with the Thunderbirds causing mayhem in London without any response from the authorities. In fact both bad guys and good guys had a free hand.
As constructive suggestion perhaps for the first movie there could have been the more constructive idea of filling the details of the establishing of the Thunderbirds and the Hood. This would could have been a more interesting start.
Just now the DVD is on sale for £5.99 in Morrisons, this made it a good deal and worth buying satisfiy my curiosity. It is unfortunate they got everything right apart from the story line which I hope dosn't kill any possible sequel (in all probability it has) as I think it can be improved upon.
Final verdict, entertaining probably good for a rainy afternoon but not something to be wtched over and over again.

I loved the Thunderbirds when I was little and watching the movie I felt excited just because it was THE THUNDERBIRDS but in general the story was quite lame and they should have included the other Thunderbirds more.
