bringing the three-dimensional puppet animation adventures of International Rescue to the big screen. Set in the 21st century, there is no attempt to explain the background story: as in the TV show International Rescue is a private family organisation who use hi-tech craft to rescue anyone in peril. Here it is the first manned flight to Mars which is in danger, as International Rescue foils a sabotage attempt at the launch, then race to avert disaster when the spaceship returns to earth. What could have made a 50-minute TV episode is expanded to feature length with Martian "rock monsters" and a surreal dream-sequence involving Alan Tracy, Lady Penelope and "Cliff Richard Jnr"&the Shadows, with a new song performed by the real Cliff and the Shadows. In the cinemas this was competing against another British children's TV SF spin-off, the equally colourfulDaleks' Invasion Earth 2150AD, and would be followed byThunderbird 6(1968). Yet apart from more complex model work, a bigger orchestra and even bigger explosions, on TV this plays like a widescreen double-length episode.On the DVD: The mono sound is powerful, with Barry Gray's stirring music suffering intermittent distortion. Presented in anamorphic widescreen the picture is very good, with strong colours and only minimal grain, though the print does show occasional damage. Unfortunately the original extremely wide 2.74:1 Techniscope image is cropped to more conventional 2.35:1, to the extent that the careful compositions are noticeably damaged, which director David Lane refers to in his joint commentary with producer Sylvia Anderson (who also played Lady Penelope). 35 years after the event their commentary is packed with details of the filming process and full of information about the many problems of and solutions to making an animated feature. Both Anderson fans and budding animators will find this a real education. The original, rather battered, trailer is included, as are galleries of behind the scenes photos, promotional artwork and posters. Altogether it's rather FABulous.--Gary S Dalkin

Advantages: feel good film, effects are better than the origianals! Disadvantages: predictable
It was never going to be amazing we all knew it. It was watchable and wasn't boring but was very predictable.
It was nice to see the vehicles actually flying and the people moving without the aid of strings.
The story follows the thunderbirds after they return to there secret island to find out their space station TB5 has been badly damaged the team thinks its just a meteor strike but unknown to them master criminal The Hood did it so that the thunderbirds left the island and he could take it over, using the power of his mind he makes brain work for him. however he hasn't realised that Alan, Tin Tin and Fermat are still on the island and there not about to give it up.
Brady Corbet plays Alan Tracy one of the three youngsters who go about saving Tracy island hes helped by Soren Fulton who plays Fermat a brilliant character ...

Advantages: Story okay for kids, humour brilliant for adults Disadvantages: Okay so the plot's weak.. .but who cares?!?!?
International Rescue. They go around the world rescuing people from natual and other catastrophes in their five hi-tech craft called "Thunderbirds" - numbered one to five. These craft have different abilities - one is actually a space station, one an underwater craft, one a rocket ship, etc. That should give you enough of an idea about the original to understand the rest of my review - if it doesn't, let me know!
One of the main potential problems is that the main characters - Jeff Tracy and his sons - are? well, boring. However, the scriptwriters wisely chose to all but leave them out of this film - Bill Paxman as the dad gets a couple of scenes, but the sons between them have only about five minutes' worth of screen time! (John - presumably the son they didn't like - keeps a permanent lookout on a space station [Thunderbird 5]. When it is ...

Advantages: Thunderbird 2 says 5 phrases but the other vehicles only say 3 phrases, the vehicles phrases are spoken by their pilot Disadvantages: The batteries don't last very long, the vehicles are made of plastic so they may break easily in small childrens hands, the lever used to release the pod sometimes jams

Virgils voice is used to say all the above commands. If you had Thunderbird 1, the commands would be spoken by Scott as he is the Captain of Thunderbird 1.
I have had my Thunderbird 2 vehicle for just over a year and it has been played with lots of times and has not broken although the batteries ran out very quickly as I use the voice quite a lot.
I normally play with my Thunderbird 2 vehicle with my Tracy Island but I also like playing with it on its' own - if you know somebody who loves Thunderbirds they are sure to like this toy.
My Thunderbird 2 cost £10.00 last year but I have seen them in the sale for around £7.00 more recently so you may be able to pick up a bargain.
