SUPERMARIONATION"! The opening sequence ofThunderbirdsis itself a masterclass in Gerry Anderson's marionette hyperbole: who else would dare to make a virtue out of the fact that (a) the show is in colour and (b) it's got puppets in it? But everything about this series really is epic:Thunderbirdsis action on the grandest scale, pre-dating such high-concept Hollywood vehicles asArmaggedonby 30 years and more (the acting is better, too), and fetishising gadgets in a way that even the most excessive Bond movies could never hope to rival. Unsurprisingly, it transpires that the visual effects are by Derek Meddings, whose later contributions to Bond movies likeThe Spy Who Loved MeandMoonrakerecho his pioneering model work here.As to the characters, the clean-cut Tracy boys take second place in the audiences' affections to their cool machines--the real stars of the show--while comic relief is to be found in the charming company of Lady Penelope and her pink Rolls (number plate FAB1), driven by lugubrious chauffeur Parker, whose "Yes, milady" catch phrase resonated around school playgrounds for decades. (Spare a thought for poor old John Tracy, stuck up in space on Thunderbird 5 with only the radio for company.) The puppet stunt-work is breathtakingly audacious, and every week's death-defying escapade is nail-bitingly choreographed in the very best tradition of disaster movies. First shown in 1964 and now digitally remastered,Thunderbirdsis children's TV that still looks and sounds like big-budget Hollywood. On this tape: The episodes are: "Thirty Minutes After Noon" and "Desperate Intruder".

Advantages: feel good film, effects are better than the origianals! Disadvantages: predictable
It was never going to be amazing we all knew it. It was watchable and wasn't boring but was very predictable.
It was nice to see the vehicles actually flying and the people moving without the aid of strings.
The story follows the thunderbirds after they return to there secret island to find out their space station TB5 has been badly damaged the team thinks its just a meteor strike but unknown to them master criminal The Hood did it so that the thunderbirds left the island and he could take it over, using the power of his mind he makes brain work for him. however he hasn't realised that Alan, Tin Tin and Fermat are still on the island and there not about to give it up.
Brady Corbet plays Alan Tracy one of the three youngsters who go about saving Tracy island hes helped by Soren Fulton who plays Fermat a brilliant character ...

Advantages: Story okay for kids, humour brilliant for adults Disadvantages: Okay so the plot's weak.. .but who cares?!?!?
I saw Thunderbirds without very high expectations - it looked like a cheesy kids adventure with no real surprises in store. Still, I was interested to see what they did with the concept of Gerry Anderson's vintage puppet show.
Taste the cheese. The cheese is goooooooooooood.
I wasn't born when the puppets of International Rescue first started strutting their heroic stuff no TV, and by the time I became fashionable again, I was too old to want to watch it. I have seen one or two episodes, but I'm not what you'd call a fan. With cartoons and the like being made into films with varying degrees of success, how would the puppets fare?
For anyone who knows little or nothing about the original series, it's about a retired astronaut (Jeff Tracy) and his five sons. They operate out of a secret island base (Tracy Island) as ...

Island and takes it over. While most of the Tracy family are stranded in space, The Hood intends to use the Thunderbirds to rob banks, including the interestingly named ?Bank of London?. But he hadn?t counted on Alan, Fermat and Tintin still being at loose on the Island?
So, no Oscars there for storyline, but it really doesn?t matter too much, when you can get lost in the film anyway. The sight of the Thunderbirds landing in London gave me a kind of childhood thrill, much as seeing the Cybermen marching through London did in Doctor Who.
Compared to the brilliance of Harry Potter 3, which I saw afterwards, Thunderbirds comes off badly, but as a piece of entertaining escapism, it?s a triumph. Sit back and enjoy it. I will definitely be buying the DVD, when it is released.
Long live nostalgia! ...

DVD Description
Gerry Anderson's cult sci-fi series made "super-marionation" popular because of its amazing and idiosyncratic puppet cast. The story follows Jeff Tracy and his sons--the eponymous Thunderbirds--as they fly around in their multimillion-dollar spaceship, answering calls of distress throughout the galaxy in the name of International Rescue. This collection contains the episodes "The Cham Cham," "Security Hazard," "Atlantic Inferno," and "Path of Destruction."
