BRINGING OUT THE DEAD (1999) [FILM ONLY REVIEW]
Advantages: Scorsese directs Disadvantages: The little bit of a plot there is fails to move forward from its miserable origins
Martin Scorsese's BRINGING OUT THE DEAD was released in 1999 to the lurking pimp-scurrying possibility of being the sequel to his magnum opus TAXI DRIVER; but how much of this is true, how much does the film live up to its grand expectations?
New York City, it's dirty with prostitution, filthy with pimps, rotten to the core with guns, depraved with drugs, awash with alcohol, junkies and homeless lunatics, with violence and sleaze oozing out of every ... ...end.
A comparison between BRINGING OUT THE DEAD and TAXI DRIVER is, of course, to be expected from this nightmarish (if somewhat sparse) synopsis and the pairing, once again, of Scorsese and TAXI DRIVER writer Paul Schrader; however in reality the difference between the two intense films is as wide and gaping as TAXI DRIVER and THE WIZARD OF OZ, except the latter two are masterpieces in their own right and BRINGING OUT THE DEAD a monotonous exercise ...

Martin Scorsese's Most Thrilling Movie Since "Goodfellas"
Advantages: Luminous lead performances supported by an excellent supporting cast Disadvantages: None
...totally riviting crime-drama, directed by the award-winning Martin Scorsese, delivering what is undoubtedly his most enthralling film since the masterpiece "Goodfellas" (1990). "The Departed" was based on the Hong Kong film "Infernal Affairs" by Alan Mak and Felix Chong. William Monahan delivered the scorching screenplay, crackling with savage, brutal wit while producers of "The Departed" included Brad Pitt, Brad Grey and Graham King. With such a ... ...all deliver magnificent performances, complimenting the stark blend of unflinching violence, harrowing, psychological drama and exhilirating, rip-roaring action scenes.
Young Billy Costigan (Leonardo Di Caprio) is a rookie, Boston-based cop. Billy grew up in a world surrounded by crime and violence. Billy's superiors, the diligient Queenan (martin Sheen) and ever-obnoxious, but straight, Dignam (Mark Wahlberg) are desperate to catch notorious local ...

An original classic; an even better remake
Advantages: Gripping Disadvantages: OTT
...J Lee Thompson's classic shocker CAPE FEAR. De Niro turns the insanity up to 11 as Max Cady, a convicted rapist who has just been released from prison after serving 14 years of his sentence. During his stint on the inside, Cady has taught himself to read, trained his physique into a finely-toned pain-resistant machine, and covered his torso in tattoos that serve as a constant reminder of what Cady wants .... revenge. Upon his release, Cady tracks ... ...WOLF and ARACHNOPHOBIA. CAPE FEAR is a great example of big-budget 'mainstream' horror at work. And of big-budget mainstream horror that works. It brings a relentlessly cruel and calculated figure into the lives of a "normal" family, then has tremendous amounts of fun keeping us on the edge of our seat as the violence veers more and more toward Grand Guignol proportions. As an antidote to later anemic mainstream offerings such as WHAT LIES BENEATH, ...

The Departed - A masterpiece for Scorsese
Advantages: Amazing, entertaining film Disadvantages: Absolutely none
...I bought a copy of the DVD and even now I know the ending its still gripping. This is a blink and you'll miss it film, very fast paced story with lots of twists and turns. There is the biggest twist at the end that totally knocks you for six, you really can't see it coming (you usually have some kind of idea with these films, but not this one). It's got an all star cast and they all pull off a fantastic performance. Jack Nicholson is amazing with ... ...Sheen - I know the cast doesn't get much better than that! There are also some great performances from Ray Winstone and Alec Baldwin. The story mainly revolves around Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon. Dicaprio is sent deep under cover to work with the Costello (played by the legend that is Jack Nicholson) and Damon (a kind of son like figure to Costello) is sent under cover (if you can call it that) with the Massachusetts State Police. Awards ...

...facing a loaded gun what's the difference".
Directed by Martin Scorsese THE DEPARTED is bursting with all the characteristics found in a typical gangster movie.
The movie is set in New York and focuses on the Irish community in the police force and the Irish mob.
It combines a stunning cast, cool script full of bad language and gangster movie quotes, and a deep and twisted plot which gradually unfolds through seasons of violence.
Jack Nicholson, ... ...Ray Winstone are some of the names that make up the top class cast in this movie and the kirisma and quality acting between them really sets the mood and brings this film to life.
William Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a trainee cop that goes undercover in a criminal gang, and Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) is a crocket cop that is a spy working for the Irish crime boss Sullivan (Jack Nickleson).
As the story unfolds suspicion grows by the police ...
