One for those who like long films..
Review of The Departed DVD by
ellaj15
Advantages: Leonardo DiCaprio
Disadvantages: Takes too long to get in to it
...ages to get in to the story line and ages to get going. I can see how others would love this film, it does have all the right ingredients. Jack Nicholson has lost his talent, which is a shame because he has had amazing roles in the past. Leo DiCaprio is the only part of this film that kept it from being the worst film I have ever seen! However, if you want a fantastic story line and you like crime films then this should be seen. ...

Red Dragon
Review of Red Dragon DVD by
mattdoble
Advantages: Good base for the Hanibal Lector Trio
Disadvantages: Worst of the Three films
Red dragon was the third film made in the Hannibal Lecter series and is set before the other two. It shows the scenes leading upto Lecters arrest and the capture its self. Its a must see for any fans of the series but only watch it after The silence of the lambs and Hannibal. I belive this is the poorest film in the series its based around a serial killer not Lecter. The actors from the silence of the lambs have changed with the exception of Anthony ...

Norton Shines in The Score
Review of The Score DVD by
Michael666
Advantages: DeNiro and Norton
Disadvantages: Can't think of any
The Score has a great ensemble cast. Robert DeNiro, Edward Norton, Marlon Brando, and Angela Basset. Brando and Basset aren't in much of the movie, just a scene here and there. DeNiro and Norton are in all most all of the movie. DeNiro is a thief. When the movie starts he is breaking into a safe during a party. He is almost caught by a couple that goes into that room for some privacy, but he gets away with the diamonds he was after. You see how he ... ...Brando plays Max. He fences the stuff DeNiro steals. They have been working together for years. Max has what he is calling a big score for DeNiro. 4 million dollars. Max doesn't say what the item is then, just that it is stuck in the customs building in Montreal. DeNiro doesn't want to do. He never works in his own backyard. Max doesn't want to let it drop, and says he has a guy on the inside to handle the security system. DeNiro still isn't interested ...

Chinatown
Review of Chinatown DVD by
Lieutenant_Columbo
Advantages: Arguably Nicholson's finest performance in a slow-burning film noir.
Disadvantages: None
Atmospheric film noir with Jack Nicholson excelling as private detective J J Gittes. Set in drought-ridden LA of the 1930's, but unmistakably a work of the 1970's, it has the feel of an early Columbo, not least because of the eerie incidental music. The storyline is strong and holds your interest, but the style and feel of the film, along with Nicholson's performance, are the highlights.
Gittes cuts a seedy but likeable figure pitted against the ... ...LAPD, for whom he used to work. Faye Dunaway and John Huston put in strong performances, adding to the sinister feel of the piece.
Only the final climactic scene is set in Chinatown, although it is regularly and knowingly mentioned throughout, increasingly as a byword for an unknown quantity in which anything might happen and over which we have no control. ...

I need you to make me ugly.
Review of The 25th Hour DVD by
Angelus
Advantages: Great Direction, Brilliant Acting, Fantastic Scenery
Disadvantages: None at all
...25th Hour is in fact the first ever Spike Lee Directed movie I've ever seen, and as I walked out of the Cinema all those months ago (I saw it back in May) I hung my head in shame at that fact, as I?d just seen what can only be classed as a top quality piece of cinematography. ** The Story ** Based on a novel by David Benioff of the same name, The 25th Hour follows the story of Montgomery Brogan (played excellently by Edward Norton) who's been cornered ... ...to the prospect of serving a 7-year jail-term for his crimes, and now Brogan is re-evaluating everything he's done in his life in the last 24 hours before he starts his case. What follows is a gritty hard-hitting story of a broken man, of someone who realises that the perfect life he thought he had was all eventually going to come crashing around his ears, and that ultimately a life of crime won't pay. Then you add on the raw emotion that is played ...
