Advantages: Good story, characters Disadvantages: None
The Da Vinci Code was probably one of the most controversial books of the modern day and so the movie was always going to be eagerly anticipated. The book was written by Dan Brown and was an international bestseller. I've read the book and really really enjoyed it and was excited above the movie. Of course, the subject matter is very controversial and although it is meant to be somewhat fictional I can see elements of truth in it. The film version ... ...follows the story of the book which I like and hasn't strayed too far away from the story which is nice. Tom Hanks stars as Robert Langdon, a professor of Symbology. He is the main character of the movie as it's up to him to solve the riddles and ultimately save himself. I like Tom Hanks in this. There's no doubting that he's a great actor but he definitely brings a fresh approach to this role. When I first heard that he was going to play this part ...
Advantages: different from the usual hollywood fodder... Disadvantages: ...but the ending may leave you frustrated!!!!!
...pop psychology and "arty" shots- Hidden does indeed have all these BUT so much more. Never have I been stuck to the edge of my seat by any other film as I was this one.
George, a TV presenter is being stalked and sent video tapes of his family home accompanied by childish drawings, hinting the problem lies in his past. The suspense is unbelievable as we move closer to finding out who is watching the house, and the tension palpable as we see the ... ...Anne and their relationship with their son.
I loved this film as it kept me gripped till the end but the ending did leave me shouting at the TV! All I'll say is that most films have a beginning, middle and end...well thats not quite the case here. My tip is to watch the interview with the Director, Micheal Haneke for further explanation.
Watch this if you fancy something different that will play on your mind for days!Dont bother if you like to ...

Review of Hidden (DVD)
Advantages: Pretty decent film Disadvantages: Poor ending
The Da Vinci Code was a film that I watched at the cinema when it came out, without having read the book. I don't really have enough spare time to read books, I'm not one who can do it on public transport and I tend to prefer films as they manage to squeeze a lot more in a small space of time, therefore the film - adaptation or not, was going to be the only version I came across.
I found the Da Vinci Code to be an awesome film, until the last few ... ...and cheesy, it seems that the film had to push it that little bit further beyond belief having told fairly in depth and plausible findings in the earlier parts of the film. Either way, it had that eerie church feel (I always find churches to be scary dark places, the blood splattered Jesus' don't exactly welcome you!) as if you didn't know what was round the next corner, the actors did superb jobs with the adaptable Tom Hanks taking the main role ...
Advantages: a great hitchcock movie from the 60's Disadvantages: none really
...time, (there were 3 more psycho movies with Perkins as Norman and even a remake of the original in 1998 with Vince Vaughn as Norman) and, as in most of his movie, he makes a brief appearance near the beginning of this one too… watch out for a bloke in a wacky cowboy hat, (but blink and you'll miss him..).
The acting is good enough to keep the movie going, (this was the 1960's remember), with all the characters doing there best to create the terrifying ... ...his all as the totally insane motel manager with a strange fetish for wearing the odd dress or two… (but not just any old dress)… and Leigh does a great job in her short role as Marion Crane (and her soon to be classic shower scene).
Although the ending of the movie is a little predictable it still comes as a bit of a shock when the truth is revealed, giving a new meaning to close family relationships and mother knows best quotations.
The shock ...
Advantages: Doris Day Disadvantages: Out of date social ideas
...has been kidnapped)? This is the scene where Day is at her best, a best I never knew she had in her…………It could have been so easy to overplay the panic, but she never puts a moan wrong. Occasionally the acting is a little over the top in later scenes, but never to the detriment of the overall story.
The story? A country surgeon-doctor from rural USA (James Stewart) and his recently married wife (Doris Day), a former singer, are travelling through ... ...about an assignation attempt, and the son is kidnapped to keep Stewart quiet. The parents' attempts to find their son lead them through a number of well filmed and acted red-herrings….and eventually they arrive at not one, but two great climaxes, both of which feature Doris Day.
There are a number of twists of the story which would never pass muster in society today, but the story itself is sound and well worth watching. Just don't take its beliefs ...
