Hanks a Billion Brown!
Advantages: Good fun romp Disadvantages: Hanks?
...the DaVinci Code and now Angels & Demons, the Collider featuring heavily in the latter movie, hence the intro, this the second of the Robert Langdon trilogy, even though in the book sequence this came before the DaVinci Code. Browns narrative is all about that search for the ultimate particle and how the Catholic Church has always tried to defend their increasingly absurd version of events on 'creation' against science as the gap closes between scientific ... ...= = 'Writing Angels & Demons' Director Ron Howard tries to convince us he loved making this movie but its by-the-numbers stuff for him and clearly a studio job film, one they 'ask' their top guys to do to secure future funding for the studio. This is the permanently Baseball capped directors first ever sequel in his forty-one-year directing career (In 2010 he would have made movies in five different decades believe it or not) and he was paid very ...

Not quite a demon of a film, but not bad.
Advantages: Enjoyable, plot draws you in Disadvantages: Female lead character not very strong
Angels and Demons is another film based on the best selling books written by Dan Brown. I have to confess that I am one of the few people who never read The Da Vinci Code although I did watch the film. I therefore sat down to watch Angels and Demons not knowing what the storyline was about. The film begins with the death of the Pope and as the Vatican get ready to elect a new pope four of the most likely successors are kidnapped. They are believed ... ...old religious group and are threatening to murder them one by one. Robert Langdon (played by Tom Hanks) is sent for because of his successful detective work in the Da Vinci code and works alongside Vittoria Vettra who is a scientist who has created an explosive antimatter which has been stolen by the Illuminati and will be used as a bomb with devastating consequences. Together Langdon and Vettra chase around Rome trying to solve the clues and uncover ...

Someone is watching you!
Advantages: Great story and technically outstanding Disadvantages: Lack of special features on the DVD
...across the way from the rear window of his Greenwich Village apartment complex. From his apartment he can see in to all the window and thus the 'lives' of the apartments facing him and in his own imagination he slowly gets to know the people making up names and stories for what their lives are like. He gradually becomes fascinated with on particular apartment where a middle aged couple live and soon he realises that a murder has been committed. No ... ...this purpose. In Rear Window Hitchcock plays with our emotions at first what Jeff is doing makes us feel uncomfortable, he is after all invading people's privacy, this is clearly wrong but we the audience are complicit in this activity we are also looking though Jeff's eye through his zoom lens and soon our curiosity overrides our sense of shame over being a 'peeping tom'. With such a claustrophobic setting and a small principle cast Hitchcock has ...

The dizzy height of Hitchcock's success
Advantages: Suspenseful, beautifully filmed Disadvantages: None for me
...best film, I have seen Vertigo many times, yet each time manage to find something else in it that I didn't notice before. This time is no different. It is a perfect mixture of suspense coupled with the unexpected, great acting and direction. If you only watch one Hitchcock, this is the one to watch.
Scottie is played by James Stewart, an actor that I have seen in many films and like without thinking he is outstanding. In Vertigo, he gives an almost ... ...he is apparently suffering from vertigo where I felt that his performance was a little over-exaggerated. Apart from that though, he shows that he is more than just a pretty face and really can act.
Kim Novak, at first glance, is nothing more than eye candy as the confused Madeleine. She certainly does look good, sticking to classic cuts and plain colours that exentuate her beauty. However, there is more to her than this. Although sometimes guilty ...
