Mother, Mother! Blood, Blood!
Advantages: A seemless epic of murderous proportions. Disadvantages: A lack of content on three discs
...one! But all the original Psycho movies, starring Anthony Perkins. I always get a bit mad when people call a DVD with more than one disc a box set. Yes it's in a box but hardly a box set! This set has nothing out of the ordinary or exceptional about its inner contents, so to call it a box set is an insult. Right that's my moan out of the way, lets get on with the show.

Marion Crane has been having an affair with shop worker ... ...shot in black and white Psycho is one of the best known horror movies, and it launched the term "Slasher" when referring to a movie of this type. During the film you are constantly told that it's very hot, 1960 was not a hot year in America. However for the movies Director Alfred Hitchcock (A Brit) it was, all his films prior to Psycho had been filmed in the winter. 1960 actually goes on record as being one of the coolest summers of the 60's in America. ...

North by Northwest (1959)
Directed by Alfred Hitchcock
131 minutes
Starring: Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, James Mason, Martin Landau
The plot has holes so gaping you could fly a crop duster through:
The Plot (if you can suspend your belief):
Grant stars as Roger Thornhill, a Maddison Avenue advertising exec. Through a case of mistaken identity, he is believed to be a secret agent for the government, who just happens to ... ...movie polls that are released. North By Northwest however is THE first extravagant, technicolour thriller which would’ve shaken viewers by their lapels on the big screen. From the suave hero who is phased by nothing, the sinister villain, the beautiful girl, thunderous music, the humour and exotic location: this film has it all. In fact, Albert Broccoli based his James Bond screen adaptation on this film and picked Sean Connery for the role due to ...

Advantages: Classic Hitchcock - I can say no more !! Disadvantages: None
...review with a quote from the Master himself, Alfred Hitchcock: "When a new Hitchcock film appears, the public and critics sit back at the start and say to themselves, 'Let's see him scare me.' My job is to get them up on the edge of their seats, and to keep them there. It gets more difficult all the time because one must find new ways to surprise an audience. Any time a viewer of one of my films can say to himself, 'I knew that was coming,' I've ... ...'The Birds' was based on the story of the same name written by Daphne Du Maurier - this was Hitchcock's third major film based on the author's works (after Jamaica Inn (1939) and Rebecca (1940). In the original story the birds were attacking in the English countryside, not in the Calafornian town used in the film. This film shows Hitchcock at his best as 'Master of Suspense' and covers a five day period from Friday to Tuesday. The film starts with ...

Beware of "Strangers on a Train"
Advantages: Fabulous story, fabulous atmosphere and fabulous acting Disadvantages: A very few irksome things but neglible
Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train - excellent movie! I could leave it that but of course I won’t. I’d had this 2 disk special edition in my DVD collection for a while before I got around to watching it. I really should have watched it as soon as I bought it. Not that I need an excuse to watch it all over again. There is no law that says you have to wait any given period of time before you can watch a film that you enjoyed all over again!
WHAT’S ... ...BACKGROUND
Strangers on a Train was adapted from “Strangers on a Train” written by Patricia Highsmith (who also penned The Talented Mr Ripley) was used as the inspiration for the 80s film Throw Momma from the Train starring Billy Crystal and Danny DeVito. Not surprisingly (for me anyway) there has been a Bollywood remake of the film called Strangers. If you’ve seen Throw Momma from the Train you will know that the inspiration for the murders ...

Torn Curtain - Was It Really Torn?
Advantages: It's Hitchcock Disadvantages: But not at his best
Torn Curtain is an Alfred Hitchcock produced and directed film released in 1966 which starred Paul Newman and Julie Andrews as Professor Michael Armstrong and his assistant/fiancé Sarah Sherman with support from Wolfgang Kieling, Lila Kedrova, Hansjorg Felmy, Ludwig Donath, Carolyn Conwell, Gisela Fischer and Gunter Strack.
Professor Armstrong is engaged to his assistant Sarah Sherman and the films starts off with them on board a ship to Copenhagen ... ...his usual acting prowess in Torn Curtain. I did feel that the plot had some glaring holes in it from start to finish. I didn't understand the significance of Professor Manfred going with Sarah to the bookshop to collect the Professor's book as he doesn't even look at the book or try to. Whilst watching a Hitchcock film, one tries to find hidden meaning in so many scenes and strangely enough there just weren't many hidden meanings in Torn Curtain. ...
