Terror strikes London - Hitchcock 1
Advantages: Hitchcocks genius, an incredibly tense scene & all around greatness Disadvantages: None at all relly.
Sabotage – Wilful destruction of buildings or machinery with the object of alarming a group of persons or inspiring public uneasiness. Such is the dictionary definition of the word and the first thing you see on screen when you watch Sabotage. Made in 1936 Sabotage is another of the movies made by Alfred Hitchcock in the UK before he headed off to Hollywood and even bigger worldwide acclaim. Mr Verloc owns a small cinema in central London that he ... ...at Piccadilly Square. Sabotage is based on the novel Secret Agent written by Joseph Conrad, who also wrote Heart of Darkness the story that became the acclaimed movie Apocalypse Now, and much like a lot of very early Hitchcock movies has a very basic premise. Of course with only 73 minutes to tell the whole story then you are not going to get a very complex movie by todays standards. It does have a thrilling story though and one of, if not THE most ...

Someone is watching you!
Advantages: Great story and technically outstanding Disadvantages: Lack of special features on the DVD
...across the way from the rear window of his Greenwich Village apartment complex. From his apartment he can see in to all the window and thus the 'lives' of the apartments facing him and in his own imagination he slowly gets to know the people making up names and stories for what their lives are like. He gradually becomes fascinated with on particular apartment where a middle aged couple live and soon he realises that a murder has been committed. No ... ...this purpose. In Rear Window Hitchcock plays with our emotions at first what Jeff is doing makes us feel uncomfortable, he is after all invading people's privacy, this is clearly wrong but we the audience are complicit in this activity we are also looking though Jeff's eye through his zoom lens and soon our curiosity overrides our sense of shame over being a 'peeping tom'. With such a claustrophobic setting and a small principle cast Hitchcock has ...

The dizzy height of Hitchcock's success
Advantages: Suspenseful, beautifully filmed Disadvantages: None for me
...best film, I have seen Vertigo many times, yet each time manage to find something else in it that I didn't notice before. This time is no different. It is a perfect mixture of suspense coupled with the unexpected, great acting and direction. If you only watch one Hitchcock, this is the one to watch.
Scottie is played by James Stewart, an actor that I have seen in many films and like without thinking he is outstanding. In Vertigo, he gives an almost ... ...he is apparently suffering from vertigo where I felt that his performance was a little over-exaggerated. Apart from that though, he shows that he is more than just a pretty face and really can act.
Kim Novak, at first glance, is nothing more than eye candy as the confused Madeleine. She certainly does look good, sticking to classic cuts and plain colours that exentuate her beauty. However, there is more to her than this. Although sometimes guilty ...

A brave party to host - but will they get found out?
Advantages: Stunning filming and direction, the subtleties, two leads Disadvantages: Some average acting from the supporting cast, but still okay
...or four Hitchcock films, and each one has impressed me greatly. I shall certainly be seeking out more. If you want to buy Rope on DVD, it is available from amazon.co.uk for £4.92, and I would say that this masterclass of presenting a dramatic thriller is well worth having. Recommended! ...

39 classic episodes...
Advantages: 39 episodes in one place, classic television Disadvantages: Addictive
Alfred Hitchcock Presents… Season One
This box set includes 6 discs from the first Season, which aired in 1955. Watching every single episode in this box set will take up 16 hours of time. I remember Alfred Hitchcock presents from the remakes in the 80s. When I spotted this box set I decided to buy it as the 1950's originals held more appeal for me. These episodes are classics and in my opinion better than the remakes. Each episode is introduced ... ...that you will recognise including Alfred Hitchcock's daughter. The acting is very good. The episodes are in black and white but I think this works better. It's a classic.
The box set does not contain any extras, just literally the 6 discs and the titles of the episode behind the front cover. Still, it's worth the money and definitely worth buying. Looking forward to Season Two being released soon.
Just for your information, here are the list of ...
