She Should Have Know Better - and So Should He
Advantages: Doris Day Disadvantages: Out of date social ideas
...has been kidnapped)? This is the scene where Day is at her best, a best I never knew she had in her…………It could have been so easy to overplay the panic, but she never puts a moan wrong. Occasionally the acting is a little over the top in later scenes, but never to the detriment of the overall story.
The story? A country surgeon-doctor from rural USA (James Stewart) and his recently married wife (Doris Day), a former singer, are travelling through ... ...about an assignation attempt, and the son is kidnapped to keep Stewart quiet. The parents' attempts to find their son lead them through a number of well filmed and acted red-herrings….and eventually they arrive at not one, but two great climaxes, both of which feature Doris Day.
There are a number of twists of the story which would never pass muster in society today, but the story itself is sound and well worth watching. Just don't take its beliefs ...

Rear Window...Another Hitchcock classic
Advantages: suspense, brilliant acting directing Disadvantages: none
This classic 1954 film is one of Alfred Hitchcock's most celebrated and enduringly popular films, famed for its incredible case and suspense, and when you watch it, it is easy to see why. Basically the film centres around a photographer called L.B Jeffries, played by the superb James Stewart, who is confined to his apartment due to having a broken leg. He spends a great deal of time looking out of his window, merely out of boredom and intrigue and ... ...building may have been murdered by her husband. This is an incredibly suspenseful, atmospheric and well acted film, with the vast majority of the film taking place in one room looking out into a courtyard. The performances from Stewart and the incomparable Grace Kelley make this incredibly easy to watch. Their relationship and the way in which it develops through their investigation of the suspected murder, is for me one of the highlights of the ...

Have YOU Got VERTIGO?
Advantages: One of Hitchcock's best Disadvantages: Minor plot holes
Vertigo is a pretty famous Alfred Hitchcock film. It was released in 1958 and starred James Stewart and Kim Novak with support from Barbara Bel Geddes (who went on to famously play Miss Ellie Ewing in Dallas for a decade or so) and Tom Helmore.
John Ferguson (Scottie) is a retired police officer who developed vertigo during a chase when a colleague fell to his death from a rooftop. He has severe vertigo and it causes some complications in his life ... ...mission and because of his vertigo Scottie is unable to save her and is consumed with guilt. Sometime later Scottie spots a woman called Judy who looks a lot like Madeline and starts to date her. He then starts to suspect that they are one and the same woman but how can this be? Madeline was elegant and refined whereas Judy is coarse and somewhat vulgar. What is the truth behind Scottie's confused thoughts? Can he trust his once sound judgment to ...

Whatever happened to Saskia Wagter?
Advantages: Utterly compelling, great performances Disadvantages: None for me
...her, to no avail, and the police aren't really that interested in helping him. Then Rex starts to receive a series of letters from the kidnapper, asking to meet up with him. Each time Rex goes to the meeting place, however, the kidnapper doesn't show up. Unable to move on, despite getting together with a new girlfriend, Rex is beginning to think he will never find out what happened to Saskia. Then the kidnapper shows himself. Will he reveal what ... ...and is really amazing in the role. Clearly in love with Saskia, he is truly devastated at her disappearance - watching him chase around the service station looking for her is really moving. The story then skips three years, and Rex is a much harder man, but has never given up the hope that one day, he will find what happened to Saskia. Occasionally, he comes close to madness. This is a deeply convincing performance by the actor and he is a real pleasure ...

Do you really believe in the perfect murder?
Advantages: Excellent Direction, Brilliant performance by lead characters, superb story line. Disadvantages: None really.
...MY PERSONAL THOUGHT Dial M for Murder is one of the finest and entertaining thriller movies directed by legendary director Alfred Hitchcock. The story of this movie is really unique and interesting. The viewers get to know about the criminal and his evil plans from the very beginning of the movie. So the question is, will he be able to carry out the plan and murder his wife without any doubt. I really enjoyed the way Mr. Hitchcock unfolds each ... ...revolves around five characters. He gives equal importance to the each character of this movie and gives a brief introduction about them. So the viewers can get familiar with the characters and get to know about their likes, dislikes and thoughts. But Mr. Hitchcock makes it very concise and point to point on the screen. As soon as you get to know about the central characters of this movie, the storyline moves rapidly with great consistency. There ...
