Mother, Mother! Blood, Blood!
Advantages: A seemless epic of murderous proportions. Disadvantages: A lack of content on three discs
...one! But all the original Psycho movies, starring Anthony Perkins. I always get a bit mad when people call a DVD with more than one disc a box set. Yes it's in a box but hardly a box set! This set has nothing out of the ordinary or exceptional about its inner contents, so to call it a box set is an insult. Right that's my moan out of the way, lets get on with the show.
Psycho

Marion Crane has been having an affair with shop worker ... ...shot in black and white Psycho is one of the best known horror movies, and it launched the term "Slasher" when referring to a movie of this type. During the film you are constantly told that it's very hot, 1960 was not a hot year in America. However for the movies Director Alfred Hitchcock (A Brit) it was, all his films prior to Psycho had been filmed in the winter. 1960 actually goes on record as being one of the coolest summers of the 60's in America. ...

North by Northwest (1959)
Directed by Alfred Hitchcock
131 minutes
Starring: Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, James Mason, Martin Landau
The plot has holes so gaping you could fly a crop duster through:
The Plot (if you can suspend your belief):
Grant stars as Roger Thornhill, a Maddison Avenue advertising exec. Through a case of mistaken identity, he is believed to be a secret agent for the government, who just happens to ... ...movie polls that are released. North By Northwest however is THE first extravagant, technicolour thriller which would’ve shaken viewers by their lapels on the big screen. From the suave hero who is phased by nothing, the sinister villain, the beautiful girl, thunderous music, the humour and exotic location: this film has it all. In fact, Albert Broccoli based his James Bond screen adaptation on this film and picked Sean Connery for the role due to ...

It Could Have Been Grace Kelly
Advantages: one of Hitchcock's most intriguing films Disadvantages: some of the scenes are blatantly faked
Marnie is one of my favourite Hitchcock movies. It stars the beautiful Tippi Hedren as Marnie Edgar and the gorgeous Sean Connery as Mark Rutland, with support from Diane Baker as Lil and Louise Latham as Bernice Edgar, and was released in 1964. The script was written by Jay Presson Allen and the book (of the same name) from which it was inspired was written by Winston Graham. Alan Napier appears as Mark's father (remember him? He was Alfred in the ... ...PLOT

Marnie is a compulsive thief moving from company to company working in clerical roles and biding her time till she can access company safes and steal money. With a large part of the money she buys expensive gifts for her mother, Bernice, who doesn't seem to like her very much. Marnie gets a job at Rutland & Co unaware that the boss, an eligible widower, Mark Rutland was a customer of a previous victim of hers and has hired her deliberately ...

Bob's Your Uncle...
Advantages: Splendid return to form for Hitchcock Disadvantages: Occasionally feels like a film out of step with the 70's
Since 1969 Hitchcock had been in the relative wilderness, attempting to launch new projects without much success. 'Marnie', 'Torn Curtain' and 'Topaz' had all failed to ring at the box office and more significantly with the critics, 1972 saw Hitchcock return to England, and embark on a low key thriller for Universal.
Adapted from Arthur La Berns novel 'Goodbye Picadilly, Farewell Leicester Square', 'Frenzy' is one of Hitchocks most engaging fims, ... ...end of his career, before the cheap and reasonably cheerful 'Family Plot', it boasts no star names, no scenic locations, no fantastic action sequences. It is however a tight and taut thriller, mean to the core with the only comedy to be found in a rather black way. A cold and cynical glimpse into the human condition, and the corruption of men.
Much of 'Frenzy's success stems from the screenplay of Anthony Shaffer, with Hitch occasionally rediscovering ...

39 classic episodes...
Advantages: 39 episodes in one place, classic television Disadvantages: Addictive
Alfred Hitchcock Presents… Season One
This box set includes 6 discs from the first Season, which aired in 1955. Watching every single episode in this box set will take up 16 hours of time. I remember Alfred Hitchcock presents from the remakes in the 80s. When I spotted this box set I decided to buy it as the 1950's originals held more appeal for me. These episodes are classics and in my opinion better than the remakes. Each episode is introduced ... ...that you will recognise including Alfred Hitchcock's daughter. The acting is very good. The episodes are in black and white but I think this works better. It's a classic.
The box set does not contain any extras, just literally the 6 discs and the titles of the episode behind the front cover. Still, it's worth the money and definitely worth buying. Looking forward to Season Two being released soon.
Just for your information, here are the list of ...
