Innocent until proven guilty
Review of Presumed Innocent (Wide Screen) by shanediablo

Advantages: Harrison Ford, Great Supporting Cast, Good Tension
Disadvantages: Drags on a little

Presumed Innocent is a courtroom drama based on the best-selling novel by Scott Turow. The film was released in 1990. Chief Deputy District Attorney Rozat 'Rusty' Sabich (Harrison Ford) is a professional, hard-working prosecutor totally dedicated to his profession. When he encounters Carolyn Polhemus (Greta Scacchi), a deputy D.A. who is very calculating and ambitious yet she is also incredibly beautiful, his life takes a turn for the worse. His ...
...multiplied to a ridiculous level. Presumed Innocent was made a little before the boom began and therefore doesn't warrant being tarred with the brush of that generation. Despite the taut and tense nature of this legal drama, it is really the cast and its performances that drive this film from being just a decent watch, to being what could be classed as a very good film. Harrison Ford (Star Wars, Witness, Air Force One) is excellent in his role ... Read review

Sex, Drugs and Sharon Stone
Review of Basic Instinct DVD by sghawken

Advantages: A magnificent blockbuster movie
Disadvantages: Too many people complain about it

With Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction about to hit the cinemas I thought it an apt time to discuss Basic Instinct and to look in depth at the film and what it gave us. Paul Verhoeven a legend in the Netherlands had become a worldwide legend after two highly successful Hollywood blockbusters. First he bought us Robocop, which is a movie that looks as good now as it did nearly 20 years ago. For his second US movie he gave us Total Recall, a bit of ...
...hour. Lots of people knock Basic Instinct, some call it cheap and tacky, and others state it's made in a very B movie style. But I have to argue that this is not the case. The production values of the film are some of the best I have ever seen, if you had no background knowledge of when the film was made it could have been made anytime since the mid eighties to this very day. The actors wardrobe is very cleverly designed, in one scene in a Nightclub ... Read review

This film is Dead Calm
Review of Dead Calm (Wide Screen) by pmcds

Advantages: Acting, Directing
Disadvantages: Limited in terms of plot

Dead Calm is a thriller from director Phillip Noyce, who followed this film with 'Patriot Games', 'Clear And Present Danger' and 'The Bone Collector'. It is a 1989 film with a good cast, and itsx running time is an easy to watch 93 minutes. The director is a specialist of the thriller genre, so you expect a good yarn here. The Plot Joe and Rae Ingram are a couple who embark on a trip in their yacht for a few days of rest and relaxation as a couple ...
...encounter Hughie Warriner, stranded at sea on a vessel that is not functioning. The Ingrams do the right thing and invite Warriner aboard, not knowing the dangser they have invited into their lives. Thus involves a game of deadly kidnapping and desperate cat and mouse game, with the experienced seafarer Ingram pitting his wiles against the criminal cunning of Warriner. The Cast and Performances Sam Neill and a very young Nicole Kidman play couple ... Read review

Most underated television series ever!
Review of Ultraviolet DVD by prom22

Advantages: Thought-provoking, modern take on old subject
Disadvantages: None!

I originally first saw this series on television and was blown away by it - the first ever vampire story that made you think that, just maybe, they could be out there..... that just maybe the scientific aspects were true....that just maybe television had got its act together and would make a second series..... and that just maybe we wouldn't be left with a beautiful memory of what drama was like before it got dumbed down! Nothing of this calibre ...
...thought-provoking dramas of the day and in some ways implied future possible behaviour of a section of society which might be outcast for various reasons. As far as I am aware it was never even repeated on television - a definite loss to a new generation of viewers - if you have ANY spare money - buy this!! ... Read review

My favourite film of all time!
Review of No Way Out (Wide Screen) by BlueDruid

Advantages: intense suspense, Costner looks great, smooth and slick, Pritchard the sinister aide!
Disadvantages: superfluous ending twist, subsequent viewings not as good as first, lack of extras on DVD

No Way Out is quite simply one of the best films ever made in my opinion! It relies very much on the fast pace and the element of surprise - there are many twists and turns. So if you haven't already seen it I urge you with all my heart and film-loving soul not to read the following paragraphs of plot detail until you have. It truly will spoil the film - it would have for me anyway. The first viewing is amazing but subsequent viewings cannot match ...
...romantic and sexy, you have no idea what a tense and fast ride you are going to end up getting with this film! The suspense gets so high I was punching my duvet on the bed shouting 'no way! no way!' Slightly embarassing to admit but true nonetheless. And yes Kevin Costner does look amazingly fit in his slim fitting white navy uniform. This is when he is in his early thirties. The sex scene in the back of the limo is very erotic and sensual. The plot ... Read review
