spooks season 1
Review of Spooks - Series 1 - Complete DVD by fordie900

Advantages: popular series
Disadvantages: none - it is perfect =)

Don't get me started on Spooks.. I love it! The first series is a fantastic introduction to the best production on the BBC this millenium! Yes, that is quite a claim, I know. These 6 episodes show the viewer what makes a Spook, some of the decisions they face, the conflicts they have with their personal lives, the quick thinking, the gadgets. Oh, it's great. If you are not hooked on the first episode, just give the second episode a try. You will ...
...not! If you like to watch something that keeps you thinking and guessing throughout, this is for you. The first series introduces us to all of the main characters adequately. You will be left wanting to know more. The focus on Tom's personal conflicts is a good touch, and emphasises the point many times that being a Spook is a top secret job, and comes with many difficulties. You want Tom and Ellie to work, but you know that it probably won't. The ... Read review

Good Adaptation, But Badly Cast.
Review of Rebus - Series 1 DVD by the_mad_cabbie

Advantages: Excellent detective yarns. Beautiful scenery.
Disadvantages: Suffers from mis-casting

...his brilliant collection of Inspector Rebus novels about the paranoid, screwed up, hard drinking Scottish police inspector. ~ ~ Rankin is one of the UK’s top crime writers. Originally from Fife in Scotland, he is now based in the Scottish capital of Edinburgh, where his fictional detective, John Rebus, has his beat. He has won a number of “Golden Dagger” awards for his Rebus novels, and when a new book is published, it invariably shoots to the top ...
...before someone decided to transfer Rebus to the silver screen. Or in this case the TV screen, as Scottish Television originally released the three novels featured on this DVD as a series of stand-alone episodes in conjunction with a production company called Clerkenwell Productions. Quite how I managed to miss the original screening of Rebus on TV is a bit of a mystery, but at least I was able to get my hands on this DVD after reading about its ... Read review

Waking the Dead Box Set - Series 2
Review of Waking The Dead - Series 2 DVD by msty29368

Advantages: Fabulous and gripping programme, BBC at its best
Disadvantages: not enough episodes

I love this programme and have seen it over and over on either the BBC or UK gold TV. I never thought I would buy box sets of this nature as once you have seen them, you tend to remember the story lines easily, so I always thought I would never watch them again. But I have surprised myself and after Series One was bought for me as a Christmas present, I felt I had to complete the collection and order the rest. Series 2 is a continuation of the fabulous ...
...drawn in to the story lines and they are gripping to watch as each case unravels itself. The programme is about a cold case team of detectives solving closed cases, with Trevor Eve as the DI and Sue Johnston as a forensic profiler. The series goes into as much detail as I feel it could, and the only downside I can honestly pick from a fantastic series is that when attending what is classed as a crime scene, the team never have their hair covered, ... Season one of Hex, comprised of 6 episodes and made in 2004 follows the story of a young girl named Cassie, who attends a private bording school in England, Medenham Hall. The typical school, whereby the popular are the elite, and the slighlty different, namely Cassie and her lesbian best friend Thelma, are ridiculed and excluded. 2nd Storming Series of the Spy Series
Review of Spooks - Series 2 - Complete DVD by hmebs

Advantages: Cutting edge, nail biting drama
Disadvantages: Can sometime have lightly over the top plot lines.

...the BBC's award winning drama Spooks is a high octane as the first. Each episode deals with a different, current and controversial plot designed to provke thought after the eppisode has finished. Here we see the team deal with Ialamic Terrorists, computer hackers, arguments with with the CIA and an army mutiny. By far the best episode is the one where the team is "locked down" in Thames house following a VX attack, the tensions and interplay between ...
...ths episode is amongst the finest television I have seen for some time. Along with the "spy" side the series gives focus on the effects that their job has on the character's personal life. The last series builds up to a great cliff hanger - but some may feel that this is a little too fantastical for belief - You will eagerly look forward to series 3 to see how on earth it can be resolved. Matthew MacFayden and Keely Hawes are fantastic actors abley ... Read review
