Picture this, three single guys, living in a well designed and very large apartment in America. No ties, no hassles, parties all the time.....bliss. Or so they think. Jack - Played by Ted Danson (most famous for Cheers). An actor who generally gets a crumby deal with the whole acting thing, well known for dalliances with the ladies. Michael - Played by Steve Guttenberg (remember Police Academy?). A cartoonist, draws the cutest cat in the world by the name of Johnny Cool, not so lucky with the ladies, generally gets the girl where he wants her, right before she cries and tells him all her problems. Peter - Played by Tom Selleck (the list is endless....). The dashingly handsome architect. Longstanding relationship with Rebecca (when someone's asking if she's single) but you know he'd say yes if you asked him!
All's going well in their lives until a knock on the door one morning. Jack's away on a 'shoot', and Peter is left to answer the door. He notices a pink basket on the floor, with a baby inside. Meet Mary. Cutest little result of a one night stand you ever saw. She's not Peter or Michael's, she's Jacks. While this is happening Jack rings the apartment to tell them that a friend of his will be dropping a package off, and it will be collected in a couple of days. Peter believes the baby is the package - cue some very odd behaviour, lots of laughs at men being wee'd upon and some involvement from the police. Without ruining the story itself, there isn't a lot more I can tell you. But, what would happen if Mary's mother, Sylvia, came back and wanted her? Get the tissues at the ready.
The next film, Three Men and a Little Lady, is the next chapter and I think it was very well done, full of laughs and it's a real shame they haven't done Three Men and a Lady. The story continues with Mary approaching school age. Many questions being asked and the possibility of being taken away from her two honorary daddy's and her biological daddy. Chuck into that even more comedy (look out for the classic kid saying the darnedist thing outside a restuarant) more than a hint of romance and excitement and you should enjoy the rest of your evening.
Brilliant 80's and 90's songs to keep you singing along too!
My recipe for success? Have a good long soak, put your comfy PJ's on, grab a coffee (or bottle of wine) some chocolates and some tissues. Light a few candles and relax with two of the nicest films I have ever seen and had the pleasure of owning.
PS Just click your fingers when you want the DVD changed if you're watching them both on the same night!
