Advantages: Emotive true life story. Disadvantages: Why has this film been forgotten?
The first time I heard the name of Tobias Wolff was in, of all things, a song on Bob Geldof's album "The Vegetarians of Love". In the song "No Small Wonder" he speaks the lines "And I got into bed, and started reading a book, by a guy called Tobias Woolf. It's good it's short stories, Just before you sleep he'll take you off to Burma....Mandalay, places like that" - Now I'm presuming this is the same Tobias Wolff who wrote the book "This Boy's Life" a autobiographical work detailing his growing up years at the hands of an abusive step-father, about which this film is based.
Tobias or Toby, or even "Jack" as the young man himself likes to style himself (named after Jack London) and his mother, Caroline, seem to be constantly on the move, travelling from one American city after another, escaping Toby's mother's latest failing ...
Advantages: Good voice Disadvantages: Too much Irish Folk

1.) Mr Rock & Roll
This opens with some gentle guitar and then the drums kick in, This is a very irish sounding track which is lead by the Irish style vocal from Amy. This flowing ditty is a very pleasant track which starts the album well.
2.) This is the life
Another catchy intro to this track and her voice has an Irish tinge again. This is a great track with a superb flow and it's easy to see why this single was such a catalyst to the success of the album over last christmas as the single was released on 10th December.
3.) Poison Prince
This track is her tribute to the troubled life of Libertines Pete Doherty. This has a very catchy flow and is one of the quickest songs on the album, I am certainly not a fan of Pete Doherty but this track is a decent ...

chances of taking the plunge or purchasing this fascinating television series.
Since ThisLife ended in 1997 there is always talk of a new series of a movie telling the tale X amount of years on, so far this has not happened, but the launch of the series on DVD may increase the chances.
If drug abuse, sex scenes involving both straight and gay couples, and bad language offends you then ThisLife is maybe not for you. However if you like to see a real taste of real life which in my view is an understated view of ThisLife, then I advise you to see this series. It's warm and inviting and often very amusing. It presents the viewer with situations that many will have been in and never known how to react. Thislife engages those what if's and makes them happen.
Totally compelling viewing.
