Richman kept appearing on-screen (first of all in a tree) to sing a ditty. It had the effect of making it seem like a tongue-in-cheek fairy tale. There are three of the songs here, with the last ("Let Her Go Into the Darkness") being an unexpected assassination attempt on him--his singing isn't that bad! The inclusion of "Mary's Prayer" by Danny Wilson shows a sense of humour in the Music Supervision department. It's used for a dreamy montage, and is enormously cheesy. A couple of classics suggest an ear for the peculiar, such as "Margo's Waltz" (Lloyd Cole) and "Build Me Up Buttercup" (The Foundations). Something like "Is She Really Going Out With Him" (Joe Jackson) is included to encapsulate half the plot for anyone not paying attention. Amongst the more recently penned songs is the best thing The Propellerheads ever wrote--"History Repeating". Many comedy albums think it's essential to do the jokes to death with dialogue tracks, but thankfully there are none here. --Paul Tonks
the Zucker-Abraham-Zucker movies, in which (often tasteless) gags were piled on at a fierce rate. The difference is that co-writers and co-directors Bobby and Peter Farrelly have also crafted a credible story-line and even tossed in some genuine emotional content. The Farrelly brothers' first two movies, Dumb and Dumber and Kingpin, had some moments of uproarious raunch, but were uneven. With Mary, they've created a consistently hilarious romantic comedy, made all the funnier by the fact that you know that they know that some of their gags go way over the line. Cameron Diaz stars as Mary, every guy's ideal. Ben Stiller plays a high-school suitor still hung up on Mary years later; the obstacles standing between him and her include a number of psychotic suitors, a miserable little pooch, and, oh yeah, a murder charge. The Farrellys' admittedly simplistic camera work, which adapts easily to a TV screen, and the fact that you'll likely laugh yourself so silly over certain scenes you'll want to replay them to see what you were missing while you were busy convulsing, make this a perfect video movie. --David Kronke

Advantages: Funny gigs and romantic story Disadvantages: Not suitable for young children
...This movie should be called "There’s Nothing AboutMary". Before I watched the movie, I thought that Mary has some sort of supernatural power, hence the title "There's SomethingAboutMary". However, still waiting for that something to happen, the movie ended. The story is basically about every man Mary knows falling in love with her, except her dumb brother. And particularly this guy, Mary's high school mate, who used to like her. There are many funny scenes, like the first date, where he goes to pick her up at her place and was introduced to her parents and something went wrong in the toilet (adult stuff).
Actually, the movie has it romantic moments too, when the guy (can't remember his name) gave up the chance and give Mary back to her genuine nice boyfriend.
I shall say no more. Watch it yourself....

Advantages: Funny, funny, did I mention funny Disadvantages: A bit long
...There's somethingaboutMary is an extremely funny movie, but more than that it has a good story line with some good actors too. It is about a middle aged man who is still in love with his school sweetheart, and he sends a spy to go and try find her for him. There is a twist though, and the spy falls in love with Mary and wants her all for himself. The story unfolds in the most comic of ways and it a good laugh. Anyone who is not to petty and has a good sense of humour should watch this film. It's none stop laughter!...
