This movie will go down as an all time classic, possibly Day-Lewis' finest performance to date and would have won best picture oscar if the Coen Brothers weren't "owed" an oscar. It is basically the story of one mans selfish journey through life and how he is empowered by greed and the drive to succeed. The way it is filmed and produced is genius, there is no dialogue for the first half hour as we learn the nature of Day-Lewis' business (a silver miner who stumbles across some oil), and as the movie progresses we see Day-Lewis become more of a power hungry monster. There is however a compassionate side to his nature, towards his son, but as soon as he opposes his father the monster within takes over. The ending of this film contains some of the best dialogue as we see Day-Lewis reach his brutal climax and as soon as the closing credits roll you'll be wanting to watch it over again. This could possibly be the best film this century.
