Do you remember Eldorado? That summery soap that offered sun, sea, and sex? In its early days Eldorado was pretty damn awful, but as the show reached its first year it bloomed and developed into something amazing, sadly by then the British public had switched off in disgust, so when it became good nobody actually realised. Eldorado has something in common with Zombie Diaries, and that is at the start it was just utter shit. Where these things differ is that while Eldorado got better Zombie Diaries just gets steadily worse, marks out of ten for this movie it starts shit and ends shit. The sad thing was everybody said that this was the case, but most said that they could not stomach to watch it to the end, so I figured like Eldorado maybe it got better.
Another good comparison is like Eldorado, the acting is horrific! In fact it's the most terrible thing about this movie. Forget the stampede of angry Zombies, who the hell is going to save us from the acting. Sitting in a close second place in the horror scales is the fact that the plot for this movie is absolutely non existent. You are led to believe that there may have been an incident that caused the people to turn into zombies, something like bird flu; but this is the length and breadth of this conversation.
There is one good thing about this movie and that's Leonard Fenton , good old Leonard.... Bless him! What do you mean who's Leonard Fenton? Another BBC soap comes in the form of Eastenders, and for a few years a regular on the square was Doctor Legg, the aging old sod who hung around with Dot, Lou and Ethel.... Ooops I forgot Willy. About ten years ago Doctor Legg said his goodbyes; he was getting very old and believed himself to be near the end of his days. All I can say to that is that good old Doctor Legg is a F**king liar, because he looks remarkably chipper here for a guy nearly dead ten years ago. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that he looks the healthiest of all the movies cast. Sadly old Doctor Legg is only on screen for a few minutes before he heads off home to his wife for fishfingers, obviously he realised that someone might connect him with Eastenders and that rather naff excuse he used to get out of his golden handcuffs contract. I'm sure Len old fella that even ten years on if the BBC lost out because of you they'll come looking for you. Sadly you wont be able to pay them off because your working in terrible stuff like this.
I seem to have for sidetracked slightly, back to the story.
BAAAAAAA!!!! I lied there isn't one!
The uneducated might say that Zombie Diaries is inspired by the Blair Witch Project because its story is told by continual filming by the leading muppets, what the movie actually steals its idea for is a movie made some 20 years prior called Cannibal Holocaust, far superior to the latter in every way. I know I'm being harsh on this movie, but the producers tried to push this out on the coat-tails of 28 Weeks Later an also flawed movie but one that looks like a Bertolucci masterpiece when compared to this piece of trash. There is a basis of a story here, but it's so thin that you'll miss it, and certainly be absolutely clueless should you awaken from a 2 minute catnap while the film progresses. Really annoying above all other things is the way that characters just pop up from nowhere, and then seemingly disappear into the same nothingless void without a trace.
The real hysterical aspect to this movie that actually annoys me more than anything else is that this is a Zombie movie, a Zombie movie that has pretty much no Zombies in it. Its cover is a terrible lie on all accounts because firstly it shows Zombies taking London (you never see them get there as our crew head for the country), secondly it shows hordes of Zombies, and I think you see maybe a dozen, and then only ever see one up close.
Zombie Diaries is shot on Digital Video, and the result makes the movie jumbled, each time an action scene takes place you don't have a clue what's going on because the camerawork it's just too edgy. Rather like David Lynch's Inland Empire Zombie Diaries filming actually made me feel a bit sick, so I guess if the filmmakers wanted their audience vomiting in the aisles that they succeed on one level, sadly it was not the level they were aiming at. As for vomiting in the aisles this piece of low budget trash thankfully only saw limited cinema screenings in dingy Soho dives, and Scottish towns that not even the Scots had heard of.
Luckily this DVD has no special features to bore you silly with. And as a real humorous outline, for a movie that has only been released for around a week, the producers have already dropped the price on this "horror" dramatically and as a result the original asking price has dropped from £12.99 to £6-£8, if you want to see a good horror movie this Autumn then this is one to avoid, and earns a all-round one star from me.
Before I leave you i'm sure someone will say that its a British movie shot on a low budget, more power to the people and all that; while I agree with such a statement you need to take into account that you only need to encourage things that are good, shit is shit, end of!!!!!
...you'll miss it role in the newsroom fairly near the start of the movie), its a British movie with a 1st time director (which is painfully obvious from the disjointed way the various sections of the movie are cut, its probably done to try to seem clever & thoughtful when its merely annoying & seriously disjointed).
The film is presented by way of various video camera diaries giving the director an excuse to shoot a lot of handheld camera work which ... ...been very en vogue since The Blair Witch Project and this movie is just as bad and annoying as that was.
The film opens with some soldiers in non-matching uniforms (someone obviously doesn't know what the word Uniform means then? Get a dictionary) showing the low budget, it obviously didn't allow for SUSAT's either which are standard issue on all British Army rifles, only the really poor RAF use iron sights. Theres also the huge goof of the 2 scientists ...

Advantages: None whatsoever Disadvantages: the entire rubbish film
What the hell were these folks thinking. NO, NO, NO, you do not make horror like this, the only horror is how shockingly poor this is.
The story is about, oh hang on sorry there is no plot. Basically how the film starts you may as well have been on Mars for the past decade, for you have no clue as to what is going on, other than there is some sort of virus. The film is erratic flitting to different scenes with different people, you do not know who ... ...just so crap. The Director has obviously seen way too much Blair Witch Project, "Oh what was that" heavy breathing starts and a flashlight comes on, a brief glimpse of zombie in the dark "AAAARRRRGGHH" hysterical shrill scream camera bouncing around like two puppies in a sleeping bag, "Flash light on face with snot on top lip "Oh my god, what is that i am so scared" Also very much like most haunted with green night vision and "ooh did you hear that?, ...

Advantages: One mildly scary scene Disadvantages: The rest of the film
...film to be one of the worst films i have seen, and definitely the worst zombie film, and there are many many bad zombie films. The film is shown from 3 groups of peoples points of view, all filmed from video cameras. On the cover of the DVD, there was a quote saying "the most realistic zombie film made", and when i began watching, i agreed. The first group followed is some journalists, and their interviews seem very real, but the realisticness stops ... ...to be made famous. The acting really ruined the film and made it unbelievable. Non of the characters were likable or life like. And the zombies only appear for about 5 minutes of the whole film, its not really about them, even though the title is zombie diaries! ...

Advantages: nothing Disadvantages: acting, effects, story line, filming, extras, every thing
Ok this film is the worst zombie movie that has been released to the public to suffer this film.(what film). This film had only one plot zombie taking over the uk that was it. Split in to 3 diaries on 3 groups of people trying to survive the virus that hit the uk. But the story line did not make scenes. The story line for the groups is missing of how they started off. How they got to that point in time. The acting is so poor, and they hade to multitask ... ...a better film. The special effects where poor and you could see the mistakes/ errors in the film. The sound was poor and some crackling during the film, the extras on the film are long very tearing to watch and sit throw. The making of the film part is nearly as long as the film. The timing for the film is as follows
Run length of film 81 mins
Extras
Making of 56 mins
Delete scenes 12 of them at total 15min
Trailer is 2 min
And they got a cast ...

Advantages: Best and Most original comedy of 2004 (and its Bitish). Disadvantages: It has an ending
A bad day can only get worse for Shaun - without giving too much away he loses several loved ones partly his fault, partly from the help of some Zombies. Action, comedy and Zombies in the one film!
As far as I am concerned one of the best scenes of any movie comes from Shaun of the Dead. Shaun (Simon Pegg) and the group are trapped in the local Pub surrounded by Zombies, the Zombies begin to storm the Pub, cue the Music, cue the Zombie bashing - Absolutely superb.
The DVD is jam packed with extras including Plot holes, outtakes, diaries, trailers, commentries, gallery etc. The extras alone will keep you entertained for hours.
One part of me is screaming out for a sequel, the other part of me does not want a sequel to ruin the first film. ...
Advantages: Extras on the disc Disadvantages: The film
cheap, sounds cheap, is cheap.
If you can stay awake till the end you'll see the truck Dead Reckoning (originally to be the title of the film) drive off into the distance victorious with fireworks exploding all around it. Jesus, Romero cannot be serious.
If I take into account the standards of Romero's first three zombie films, then this is one of the worst films I've ever seen. Certainly the most disappointing. Take away all trace of the first three films and have this as a stand alone film, and it's merely poor and instantly forgettable.
Will I keep the DVD in my collection? Of course. It'll sit on the shelves with the other three, though not sit comfortably with them.
Incidentally, news has broken recently of a possible fifth Romero zombie film, probably to be called Diary Of The Dead. The story? A group of teenagers head off ...

DVD Description
At the start of the 21st Century, a deadly virus has swept the Earth, wiping out most of its human populace. Now, only an isolated scattering of survivors remain. Among them; a film crew intent on making a documentary about the plague, a married couple who have picked up a mysterious hitchhiker, and a terrified group that has barricaded itself inside an old farm. Unbeknownst to them, the virus has created a breed of marauding zombies with a taste for human flesh. Told from the survivors’ point of view, THE ZOMBIE DIARIES charts the early days of the outbreak through to its devastating aftermath. The unnerving cinema verite style recalls THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, though the film is thematically closer to 28 DAYS LATER.
