This is the series of X Files that goes a little bit Indiana Jones. Mulder is left for dead after a train explosion but nursed back to health by a group of Indians. OK STOP! What did I just say? Yes, it’s about being nursed back to health by Native Indians: weird!
Many consider this the best ever season, and I have to say I did enjoy it a lot. Gillian Anderson leads the series, fresh off giving birth, as she searches for Mulder. I think Anderson is a more likable actress than Duchovny, the self confessed sex addict whose acting is as wooden as the lump in his trousers!
There are 24 episodes in this season, and it really begins to introduce the mythology which will underpin the whole show. In particular, the encrypted tape which explains just how much the government know about aliens.
This is one of the seasons where we do get to see some physical evidence of aliens, and as such it’s a brave move; no longer is it all a hypothesis, this one confirms the little green men really do live.
This show really taps into our love of conspiracy, and the hope that we are not alone. It’s exciting and deep as the storylines grow more and more complex. Again, the acting is solid, and it’s nice to see Anderson making more of a role for herself than in season two. The storylines are a good mix of spiritual horror and crazy cockroach madness, which keeps it fresh and interesting.
All in all an excellent season, and one that raises the bar in what is to come next.
