I remember first watching this series in the 1970's as a child and I have watched it many times since.
The storyline is compelling as it takes you through the Second World War, the reasons for the conflict, political manouvering and dogma by both sides, the in fighting between the allies on both sides and most of all the suffering of so many souls.
War is a very terrible thing, a tragic waste of humanity and as this tale is woven what comes through is the scarring of a generation of people around the world that is still felt today.
In todays world, where war is almost equated with a video game replete with high definition pictures of guided missiles hitting targets, this series should be shown to show the real price of going to war - peace.

I see you've posted this as a DVD review, but you've not mentioned the DVD. Are there any extras? If so, what are they and are they any good? If you add to this, or if you change it to be posted as a "Film Only" review, which can be done by accessing "edit review" above the review and changing the drop down menu under the "Which format are you reviewing?" question at the bottom, please let me know and I'll re-rate.

Sorry for the low rating, but I think that your Review needs a lot more information and detail to justify a higher rating. Don’t worry about the low rating most people get low ratings at first, its’ just a case of getting to know what to include. It helps if you write every Review as if you’re writing for someone who has virtually no knowledge of what you’re reviewing, in clear non technical language. You might find it helpful if you read and rate some other peoples’ reviews (especially those that have been rated VH or E). It might give you an idea of the sort of things you need to include. If I can be of any help or if you decide to add to or edit your review feel free to put a note in my gb, I’ll be happy to re-read and re-rate. Rich
