Working Girl - but not on the streets!

Advantages: Brilliant
Disadvantages: Lack of DVD extras, but the film itself is excellent

Harrison Ford seems to have a knack of getting the good roles. In Working Girl, he works with Melanie Griffith and Sigourney Weaver to give us director Mike Nichols' 1988 film telling a story about office work in the 1980s. Essentially, the film doesn't have a special plot. It tells of Tess McGill (Griffith), a clever secretary who lands a job working for Katharine Parker at Trask Industries. When Katharine breaks her leg and Tess finds out she was going to steal one of her ideas, she decides to get her own back by pretending to be her own boss. The sparks fly as professional backstabbing ensues left, right and centre. Cue Hollywood cheese.............. Ford kind of takes a back seat in this film and lets Griffith and Weaver dominate the proceedings, and this is the right move. The script nails it with the spoft spoken Tess ...

Review of Working Girl (DVD)

ALEXANDER: Director's Cut

Advantages: A must see for all lovers of long historical epics.
Disadvantages: Could have shown more detail in the battle scenes.

This is an impressive looking production with sumptuous costumes and sets and a rousing score from Vangelis. The Director's Cut includes extra footage, as is to be expected. Oliver Stone chose a largely European cast for the film, with Colin Farrell as Alexander and Anthony Hopkins as Ptolemy. In this film there are several Irish actors, including Farrell, so the main accent is of course Irish, which makes a change from the (by now) traditional British accents in film epics. It would be refreshing if a director had his historical cast adopt an accent authentic to the time and place i.e. in this case Macedonian or Greek. Val Kilmer, who plays Philip, Alexander's father, does change his, but to an Irish one like Farrell. Angelina Jolie, who plays Alexander's manipulative mother, is the only one who attempts a Mediterranean delivery ...

St Anton

Advantages: Beautiful scenery, Clean Air, Superb Excursions, Warm and Friendly Folk
Disadvantages: can be expensive to the British Pocket

Just at the foot of the Arleberg pass, and in the Arleberg is St Anton am Arleberg it is around a 20 mins drive from Landeck and around an Hour by motorway from Innsbruck with major international and ntional rail links St Anton is one of the more easily accessible places to get to in the Austrian Tirol particularly if you do not have a car, if you have plenty of money then you could travel in style as the Venice - Simplon Orient Express stops at St Anton railway Station in each direction, and if you arn't travelling on board why not pop up to the station where you can view the Orient Express when it stops for several minutes. St Anton one of the more popular Towns in The Tirol and is very popular destination amongst British Tour operators ( Self Drive, Coach and Air) despite being set in Mountains and also the town itself being ...
