This film is a definite no for anyone that enjoys a good horror. It is ridiculous, unrealistic and tacky. I didn't enjoy it at all. The films special effects were nothing to write home about. As far as the acting goes it wasn't too bad but there was a lot of room for improvement.
The film is about Heather (Agnes Bruckner) who is a teenage girl with a few problems and doesn't get on well with her mother. She is really neglected by her parents (Emma Campbell and Bruce Campbell) and because they cannot deal with her she is sent to an isolated all girls boarding school in the middle of some really creepy woods. The staff are really weird and the headmistress Ms Traverse (Patricia Clarkson) is just scary. Heather doesn't like the school and wants her parents to take her home but they refuse. She is bullied by some of the other girls led by Samantha (Rachel Nichols). She has some strange experiences when venturing into the woods, like hearing voices and other strange noises. When some of the other girls go missing and the staff do not report it, she realizes that things aren't quite what they seem.
This film was so boring that I actually fell asleep whilst watching it. I definitely would not recommend this film to anyone unless you have trouble sleeping at night!!!!!
DVDTALK Those expecting a shock-a-minute gore-fest will most likely walk away scratching their head, but as a semi-homage to Dario Argento's Suspiria, The Woods is a creepy little winner.
FILMCRITIC The actors obviously don't understand the material any more than we do, nor do they seem to care.

Sorry for the low rating. It's a good start but if you wanted higher ratings then you need to say more. Perhaps you could tell us more of what you think without giving too much away. What did you think of the acting? If you read other film reviews you'll see what is needed for higher ratings. If you edit this let me know via my guestbook and I'll happily re-read it.

Advantages: The music at times makes the film a little creepy. Disadvantages: Performances and plot line are awful, and for the most part the music is too.
