Full review

This movie can best be described as a very bad attempt at psychological horror. The story begins when neglected teenager Heather Fasulo (played by Agnes Bruckner) is left at a remote boarding school for girls only, guess where? Right in the middle of the woods! The school is governed by the wicked headmistress Ms Traverse (played by Patricia Clarkson) she and the staff are nothing more than wicked people hiding a wicked secret.

Heather is tormented by her class mates and staff alike and is desperate to return home but has no way of getting in touch with her parents other than to ask the staff to, who of course do not. When students start to disappear, Heather realises that there is something very wrong with this place and as her visions start at nights she becomes even more terrified, seeing things in her sleep that she cannot explain.

One thing`s for sure, she is very much alone here and someone knows what’s going on but no one is saying. She eventually makes friends with one of her class mates and gets some mumbo jumbo information from her about other girls who have been taken by the woods. This information tally’s with what she has seen in her visions and she’s now sure of one thing, there’s something out there amongst those trees and it wont be letting her leave anytime soon.

I was so disappointed by this movie, not least because of the fact that the idea behind it was such a good one but the acting and the portrayal of the idea let it down so badly. There are some very shallow performances throughout the cast and some very weak scripts also.

The parts of the movie that could have been so scary were eventually such a let down as they were so badly acted out. In the end this movie became farcical as it tried in vain to find a way to scare the viewers.

Although a lot of recent horror movies have been let downs this is definitely one of the worst I have had the misfortune to sit through and certainly would not recommend it to anyone.

I sincerely hope I have managed to talk you out of wasting an hour and a half of your precious life, there truly is nothing good about this movie except when it ends and even then you are left scratching your head!

I hope you have enjoyed this little review although even if you have not, you will still get much more enjoyment from reading it again than you will ever get from watching the movie it is written on!

The film is about Heather (Agnes Bruckner) who is a teenage girl with a few problems and doesn't get on well with her mother. ... ED WOOD DVD (2006) The film 'Ed Wood', released in 1994 is a biopic directed by Tim Burton, and starring Johnny Depp as cult filmmaker Edward D. Wood, Jr. The film covers Wood's life when he made his best-known films as well as his relationship with actor Béla Lugosi, played by Martin Landau. This film plays homage to the low-budget sci-fi and horror films of Tim Burton's childhood. The story was based on a novel by Rudolf Grey, "Nightmare of Ecstasy", and the screenplay was written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszowski. When it was released in 1994, it was a box office flop, but it has since become known as one of Burton's better - if not best, films. From the terrific use of black and white to the startling performances, I think that this is one of the best of Burton's film. He never darkens... Read review

LIFE IS STRANGER THAN FICTION
Review of Ed Wood (DVD) by  Mauri

Advantages: Great acting and excellent direction
Disadvantages: None

...of Wood as he later in life became involved in directing hard-core porn films and eventually died forgotten and alone. Overall this is a gem of a film and probably Burton's best to date. Despite being a comedy at times it deals with some dark subjects but the ludicrous nature of the film projects that Wood embarks on and the weirdness of the people he associated provide a lot of humour keeping the atmosphere upbeat and funny. This film is a joy to watch for anyone who is interested in films especially the low budget 50's B-movies and really does prove the old saying that fact can be stranger then fiction. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Ed Wood is available on DVD for £7.99 including delivery from Play.com or on VHS for £8.99 (+p&p) from Amazon.co.uk Thank you for reading and rating this opinion © Mauri...
