I went visiting my Dad the other day he can't move to great so he tend's to sit in his chair watching alot of film's on DVD'S because it's alot easier for him to use well so he say's I just think he's being an old git so he can keep up with the gagets in life so we bought him a DVD player for his christmas and he phones regular as clock work for what DVD he want's this week. But this week I bet him to it. We were shopping in HMV for CD'S for my son when we came across The Whistle Blower for a great price of £5.99. I knew my dad would like it anything with Michael Caine in it was well worth watching again and again I could hear him say.
We went around to my dad's. His home help had just left and he was sitting in his normal chair. As I passed him the DVD his face just light up.(my dad is a victor meldrew)and then he gave me his face"don't just stand there, put it on"I knew he doesn't mean it as he wink's at my son and smiles when am not looking.
Then came the moment I had to sit the whole 100 minutes watching this film, that was to surprise me as I didn't think it would be my cup of tea at all....
My review of The Whistle Blower.
The film Cast Overview. Michael Caine....Frank Jones, James Fox....Lord, Nigel Havers....Robert Jones, John Gielgud....Sir Adrian Chapple, Felicity Dean....Cynthia Goodburn, Barry Foster....Charles Greig, Gordon Jackson....Bruce, Kenneth Colley....Bill Pickett, David Langton.... Secretary to the Cabinet, Dinah Stabb....Rose, James Simmons....Mark.
It is set in 1987, Micheal Caine is Frank Jones, A businessman and patriotic war veteran(hench why the old members of family enjoy) whose son Bob (Nigel Havers) is a Russian linguist who works at the intelligence-gathering Government Communications Headquarters. Then a few days after Bob expresses his doubts to his father about aspects of his work, The police come to the door telling him that his son has died in an accident.(he had died in a fall )and a verdict of accidental death is recorded.
But while Frank is grieving for his loss, he finds it very puzzling by the circumstances of his sons death and what his son had said only a few days before the so called accident he starts his on investigation. Frank find's himself fighting against the unscrupulous secret service who are prepared to stop at nothing, which includes murder,so to cover up their operations. Frank has a hard fight on his hand's to prove to the law why he really did die.
The Whistle Blower is told in a slow yet thrilling pace. The plot is really good, even though I found it hard to follow at times(but that might because my dad was wanting cup's of tea at all the good parts I kept missing parts.LOL) The production is very simple with no speical effects which makes the film more realistic. I would recommend this to anyone who loves spy films and Michael Caine.
Hope you enjoyed reading. All the best Kat x
