When this film came out on DVD and video I really wanted it, in fact an ex of mine, well his family were buying it for me for my birthday present, unfortunately for me we split the day after my birthday and I never get this video. Weirdly enough I never did get round to buying it. I gave up smoking recently, well about 3 weeks ago now (This is quite a frequent occurrence with me and something I don’t have a problem doing, I find it very easy as Dan will vouch), well my treat for not smoking at the moment is a DVD, so when I popped into HMV today and saw their special offer of 2 for £20 and this being there, I had to buy it, can’t see Josie (My ex’s mum) buying it for me now anyway LOL, here’s my op on the Wedding Singer, Mel xxx

• What’s the Film About?
If I said a wedding singer you’d hit me right? Well, it does centre really around 2 characters, Robbie Hart who is a wedding singer and Julia Sullivan who is a waitress. Julia is engaged to Glen and is wondering if she is ever going to get married. Then Glen springs it upon her to start sorting the wedding out as it’s time.
Robbie is due to be getting married and is stood up at the alter. Devastated he withdraws into his self and stops working altogether until he is convinced by his best friend to go back to work. This causes even more problems as he isn’t ready and ends up making peoples wedding days a nightmare. Julia begs (practically) Robbie to help her plan her wedding as he had already promised to play at her wedding but was not saying he couldn’t do it anymore. So Robbie begins to help Julia plan her wedding but in the process they learn more about each other and end up falling for each other instead.
As per usual with all films I don’t want to say anything else about the plot as I don’t want to give it away to those who haven’t seen it before.
To say this film is *so 80’s* is an understatement. The music, the times, the language, the fashion, it is pure 80’s nostalgia!
The film is a happy film, with a good ending and very funny. It’s genre would definitely come under Romantic Comedy and It really is rather amusing without making you concentrate too hard – not a serious film so if that’s what you are after, then this isn’t for you!

• Some Technical Information that bores the pants off me but some people like to know.
Ok, here’s the cast info and boring technical stuff about the film, I always put this here as my best friend loves reading some like this.
Adam Sandler plays Robbie Hart.
Drew Barrymore plays Julia Sullivan.
Christine Taylor plays Holly Sullivan.
Allen Covert plays Sammy.
Matthew Glave plays Glenn Gulia.
Ellen Albertini Dow plays Rosie.
Alexis Arquette plays George Stitzer.
The film is a 12 certificate, which means it is unsuitable for anyone under the age of 12. I don’t remember this film containing any sex or nudity, I think there was some kissing and bad language though.
The films running time is 97 minutes long approximate and is a romantic comedy. It was directed by Frank Coraci (The Waterboy and Murdered Innocence) and written by Tim Herlihy (Little Nicky and The Waterboy).

• Are they any extras on the DVD?
I think I was hoping for a little bit more where extras were concerned. I guess after now have the complete Evil Dead set on DVD and getting double discs etc with loads on I have been a bit spoilt. The Wedding Singer does have a few extras though, just not as much as you’d think;
 Interactive Menu – This as actually one of the best menus I’ve seen, I love the way it counts down and the music selection.
 Theatrical Trailer – There’s only one trailer
 Cast Bios – Bios on Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore, Christine Taylor, Alexis Arquette, Jon Lovitz and Steve Buscemi
 Scene Selection

• Where can I buy it and for how much?
I bought my copy from HMV which were doing an offer on 2 DVDs for £20. After a swift look around the internet I found you could buy the same DVD at/for…
Splash DVD for £7.99 (including postage and packing) http://www.splashdvd.com
DVDplus for £8.95 (including postage and packing) http://www.shopcreator.com/mall/dvdplus
Play.com for £8.99 (including postage and packing) http://www.play.com
High street stores stock this DVD too and I have seen it for sale in Woolworth’s, WHSmith’s, HMV and also Tesco’s.

• My Final Conclusions on the Wedding Singer.
This film is worth buying just for the music in it. If you were an 80’s child, or out partying in the 80’s then this film will really bring a few memories back for you. That and the shocking fashions that went on (Remember the lace thing and Madonna? New Romantics and boys in make up?). It’s light hearted, not complicated and easy to watch. You will cringe at the fashion, be amazed how many of the 80’s tracks you remember and sing along too (well I was!) but mainly you will probably fall in love with Robbie and Julia and hate Glen by the passing minute. The film has a guest appearance from Billy Idol aswell as him self which proves to be quite amusing for those entire Billy fans out there!
Adam Sandler is fantastic. He is funny and really does play a great stood up groom. Even with the dodgy ‘mullet’ type hair do I fell for him and pitied him. Drew Barrymoore’s a lovie anyway. In fact if I was a lesbian she would be my ideal. I love Drew and in this she doesn’t disappoint. Her character is soft and she plays Julia well. None of the roles are over-powering and strong, the film isn’t that serious and like I said before, if you are looking for a strong willed serious film, this isn’t for you so don’t expect the characters to be earth moving!
Overall I love this film, it isn’t just a chick flick, I think this is one for the guys too. It’s funnier than it is romantic and definitely worth a watch if you haven’t seen it before. I’d even go as far to say to *pay* to rent it if you haven’t seen it, it is worth it. It gets a 8 out of 10 for me (it looses 2 out of 10 for reminding me how badly I dressed back then and my love of Miami Vice, damm you Don Johnson!) Mel xx

Last time I tried to watch this film I was at my friends house and everyone talked all the way though it, so I will have to watch it again at some point. Ruth :-(

The Wedding Singer (DVD) - review by niclemamy

Advantages: Great music you can sing along too (if your old enough) Funny script with lots of romance thrown in too.
Disadvantages: Well if you didn't like the 80's music, then this may not appeal to you. You might be shocked at the dress sense, lol.
