Sarah_Louise is back!! This time I'm back to stay! I've been absent from Ciao for over a year now (time flies!) but I blame the birth of my first baby last July having a lot to do with it! :o)

Yes that’s right folks, Sarah’s back to review another film AFTER you’ve probably all seen it because it was on TV!
Oh well, its not my fault I can’t afford to go to the cinema (everyone say “awwww”!).
Now I know most of you will have already seen this, either when it was released in 1998 or last night on BBC1. However just for those who haven’t seen this here’s something for you….
~ Background information ~
Director: Frank Coraci Starring: Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore Rating: PG RunTime: 96 Minutes Genre: Romantic comedy
~ What’s this film about? ~
This film stars Adam Sandler (playing the part of Robbie Hart). He is, as you may have already guessed, a wedding singer (he’s a failed rock star!). He is due to get married but ends up being jilted. By this point he meets a waitress called Julie (played by
Drew Barrymore). And, yes, you’ve guessed it….. he falls in love with her! She’s already engaged though. Does Robbie ever manage to win Julie over?
Well you’ll just have to watch it (failing that you can make an educated guess, or, failing that you can read on to the end of this opinion!)
Oh, and one more piece of information. It is set in 1985 so you’ll have to put up with some scary clothes, terrible music and some seriously dodgy hair styles!
~ What do I think of this film? ~
Now, I’m sure a lot of you may have noticed something about my style of writing by now. Have you spotted it? No? In that case you need to read more of my opinions!
Well I prefer to write about things that I like. In fact, I can honestly say that during my time hear at Ciao I cannot remember writing one opinion whereby I’ve given the item/product/film/whatever a rating of less than 3 stars. Generally the write up that I’ve given all my reviews have been praising the items/films/etc. I can’t remember writing one opinion whereby I have disliked the thing in question.
As for this review? Is this one going to be any different? Well I’m afraid it is. I still think this film is worthy of 3 stars (well, more like 2.5 really). Let’s put it this way, this film is not near the top of my favourite films. Whether I’ll click the yes or the no part when it comes to “Do I recommend to a potential buyer” we’ll just have to wait and see. If I do decide to give it a “Yes” then you must realise I mean that only if you are particularly bored.
There was one main thing about this film that I really didn’t like (and no, it wasn’t their hair do’s!). It was simply the fact that this film is SO predictable. I know most people claim that most films are really predictable, and, I must agree, a lot are. However personally I don’t find most films so predictable from within the first 10 minutes or so…. It usually takes me at least 45 minutes! (Slow I know!) But, this film is so predictable even I knew exactly what was going to happen, within about 10-15 mins of the film starting!
Even the rating of this film seems a little harsh. It’s a PG but I can honestly say it would be suitable for a U if a few of the more “offensive” swear words were removed. This film is honestly soft (for lack of a better word!). Even the one slight street-fight scene is pretty lame!
All-in-all I think I am going to stump for the Yes option on the recommend to a potential buyer. Why? Well because: (a) this film is more daft than anything else… good for a laugh I suppose! (b) I know a lot of people that did actually enjoy this film. I think it is probably just me being so harsh to the film, after all, I never normally go for romantic comedy style films. Comedy is great on its own, but mixing it with romance ruins it! After all, to see that I am in the minority you only have to look at the ratings that others have given this film!
I’m afraid you are just going to have to judge this film for yourself. I guess if you like your romantic comedies then you’ll enjoy this film. My personal rating for this film would have to be no more than a 5/10.

I like to write about things I like too...I think I've only written two ops on something that I didn't like...only because the products didn't work and I was annoyed. Strong feelings make the best ops, escpecially when you have enjoyed something.

Advantages: Great, feel good, funny film with a brilliant 80’s soundtrack Disadvantages: You might cringe when you realise that you used to look and dress like that

Review of The Wedding Singer (DVD)
Advantages: Great music you can sing along too (if your old enough) Funny script with lots of romance thrown in too. Disadvantages: Well if you didn't like the 80's music, then this may not appeal to you. You might be shocked at the dress sense, lol.
