I hadn’t heard of The Wedding Date before until the other night. My friend had invited me over to her house , along with another friend of ours , to watch a DVD. Browsing through her HUGE DVD collection , my friend suggested this movie ; so this is the movie we all agreed on and watched.
The Wedding Date is a romantic comedy movie and was released in the United Kingdom on 22nd April 2005.The film stars Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroney. Running time of this movie is ninety minutes (one hour and a half). This movie is a certificated 12A.
Kat , who is single and lives in New York , travels to her parents house in London to celebrate the wedding of her younger half sister who she maid of honour for. She is soon shocked to discover that the best man is in fact her ex. Eager to impress him , she hires a man who pretends to be her ‘boyfriend’ ; pretending that they are very much in love. The aim of the game is to impress her ex , however , what will happen when the plan backfires ? Watch The Wedding Date to find out!
Being a romantic comedy fan, I absolutely loved this movie. I was looking forward to this movie because I thought ‘ooh a wedding’ ; how romantic. But there was a lot more to it that your average wedding. So that added a lot more entertainment to it.
I thought the fact that Kat knew certain main (when I say main , I mean people as in ‘the main people of a wedding’ ; best man etc) male members added a certain amount of comedy to the movie even if it wasn’t at times meant to be of comedy value. It also got me thinking , I wonder if anyone in the ‘real world’ has ever been in the same situation that Kat goes through in this movie.
I thought that a good choice of actors and actresses were selected for this movie. My favourite character in this movie was Kat , because in some parts I felt sorry for her because of all of her ‘connections’ to male guests at the wedding , however on the other hand , some parts of it were funny. I found her to be a very interesting character who was very entertaining.
In a way , the plot reminds me of a fraction of the film ‘27 Dresses’ , where the main characters younger sister gets married to the character that the main character is in love with. I had enjoyed that particular film as it was all about weddings ; just like I enjoyed the film American Pie : The Wedding , because it was all about weddings.
There were a few ‘hot guys’ in this movie which provided me with some delicious eye candy. Even if I had not have enjoyed this film (I did though!) I think I could have watched it with the mute button on , just so I could get an ogle at the sexy men! Hehe! They were distracting at times!
This film isn’t that ‘true to life’ having thought about it. I mean could you honestly imagine someone paying $6000 so they would go with them to a wedding ? I suppose if you had money to burn then you might, but then when you think of all the other nicer and longer lasting things you could buy with that kind of money it does seem a little bit far fetched.
I Would definitely recommend this movie ; it’s a perfect film for a girlie night in! I reckon , even some men will love it!
