Forget Hannibal - a pretty mediocre mish-mash of a film that is not a patch of the original SOTL - Wait a week for the release of another serial killer movie - 'The Watcher'.
Due to be released generally on Friday, March 9th - I was privileged to see a Press screening at UIP's offices in London on Wednesday.
This is my review of the film, which I'd highly recommend to anyone as a cracking movie and well worth the wait (it was released in the US back in September according to my production notes)
Beware of the eyes in the dark - you just might not be alone!!!
The new dark, chilling, psychological thriller from director Joe Charbanic. pits David Spader as ex FBI agent Joel Campbell against serial killer David Griffin played by Keanu Reeves in a deadly game of cat and mouse.
Both Spader and Reeves give superb performances - Spader as the ex Los Angeles FBI agent, Campbell, who is living on the edge of insanity after suffering a nervous breakdown caused by the loss of his lover in a fire, whilst trying and failing to capture Griffin. This counterbalances Griffin (Keanu Reeves) - a psychotic, inhuman but eminently charming serial killer. He delights in stalking innocent young women, before, with the coldness and stealth of a snake, captures, tortures and kills them in their own homes!
Campbell has moved to Chicago to escape his past and try to rebuild his life. He is doing this with the help of psychologist Polly Bellman (Marisa Tomei), who he is starting to care about. He exists from day to day on a cocktail of powerful drugs, to keep his depression in order. However, this is about to change. Unable to get his kicks without the thrill of the chase, Griffin tracks Campbell to Chicago, where he draws him back into the ‘gam’e with a sadistic new twist that threatens to push Campbell over the edge.
Each day Campbell receives a photo of the intended victim, and a time limit in which to find them and prevent the murder. As the body count rises, the ticking clock increases the mounting tension. Who will win this finely balanced chess game - the cat or the mouse? .
Will Campbell finally capture his nemesis, or will he have to pay the ultimate price - not only for himself, but for Polly as well?
It leads to an explosive, searing climax between the two, but to tell you who wins – well that would let the cat out of the bag now wouldnt it!
