Advantages: Brad Pitts Performance Disadvantages: The other actors involved
..."After finishing a magazine assignment on serial killers, journalist Brian Kessler (David Duchovny) is so fascinated that he decides to co-author a book on homicidal maniacs with his exhibitionist-photographer girlfriend Carrie Laughlin (Michelle Forbes). En route to California, where the bored yuppies plan to build a new life in a land more receptive to Carrie's art, they pick up an unusual couple, Early Grayce (Brad Pitt) and Adele Corners (Juliette Lewis). Conveniently, Grayce happens to be a serial killer and serves, along the way, as Brian's in-house specimen. Advantages: Great all round Disadvantages: none really
...Kalifornia is a great film, with a strong cast, David Duchovny, Brad Pitt, Juliet Lewis. It is a bit like a road movie with David Duchovny's character writting a book about serial killers, and his girlfriend taking the pictures. They intend to travel across the country to California, and decide to take 2 passengers to help finance the trip, and share the driving. The passengers are Earl (played by Pitt) and his girlfriend played by Lewis. Only the thing is Earl just happens to be a bit of a serial killer himself!
It's a great movie, with some stunning performances. The story is great and keeps you interested throughout. I'd recommend this to anyone....

Advantages: Ed Norton in a thoughtful film Disadvantages: a bit brutal in places
...complete change in lifestyle, but the film is really warning against that also. After all no one involved in Durden's plan betters his or her life or achieves anything worthy. The film really has more to say about the animal nature of man and our ability to become mere cult followers at the will of charismatic leadership. Whether the images of the film over ride the philosophical debate is really dependant on the viewer but hopefully more people will walk away from it discussing the parallels of fascism, terrorism and cultism than will be discussing the merits of underground fight clubs.
It seems to be a common theme recently that filmmakers need to have a major reveal at the end of the film; I heard this described as the Keyser Soze syndrome after the character from the film The UsualSuspects. This film does the same and in no small fashion...
