The Plot
The Unborn is a supernatural thriller that draws upon the legend of a dybbuk, a malevolent spirit that refuses to leave the human world and inhabits the body of a person. Casey Beldon is a young woman who is living a normal college girl life, a loving father, good friends, etc. She starts having this bizarre dreams, visions of strange twisted looking dogs, and an evil child with bright blue eyes. Casey is doing a part time job babysitting a neighbor's children, one night a strange thing happen and the oldest child of the couple starting to say weird things and hit her with a small hand mirror.
After the incident Casey's eyes begin to change color slowly, fearing that it may be dangerous she consults to optometrist, from there she learns that she had a twin brother who died while both of them were still in the womb. Casey begins to realize that the spirit haunting her is the soul of her dead twin. She starts looking for any clues amongst her late-mother belongings which guide her to a person "Sofi". Casey meets an old woman named Sofi, who turned out to be her grandmother.
Sofi and her daughter (Casey's mother) had been experiencing the same spirit disturbances, but unfortunately her daughter gave up fighting and kill herself. This evil entity is known as Dybbuk, is a soul of a dead person who has been banned from entering haven, and wanders endlessly between the world of the dead and the living looking for a new body, and some people act as doorways, especially twins. Sofi explains that she had a twin brother who was killed in Nazi experiments in Auschwitz when they were both just children. The boy was brought back to life by a dybbuk who intended to use his body as a portal into the world of the living. Sofi killed her twin to stop the dybbuk, and now it haunts her bloodline for revenge. Attacking Casey's beloved and people who are close to her, making her weak and vulnerable.
Sofi refers Casey to Rabbi Sendak, who can perform a Jewish exorcism to remove the dybbuk. With the help of some people the exorcism is performed, but things go wrong as the dybbuk is strong and try to stop Rabbi Sendak from completing the ritual. The dybbuk is expelled after the exorcism but with the cost of Casey's boyfriend's life. Soon afterward, Casey learns she is pregnant with twins.

My Opinion
There are quite a few horror/thriller movies/dvd around recently and being a horror/thriller movie fan I can say that most of them are not worth watching. But after watching "The Unborn" I can say that I like this movie. The acting is performed well, though maybe can be better at least no stiff and awfully performed dialogue. The atmosphere suits a horror movie very well, such as the abandoned mental hospital where Casey's mother died. The sound effects can give you the creeps, with all the knocking, whispering etc. Special effects are very good, the creepy face of the dybbuk when it's angry, the twisted human body, the misshapen animals.
There aren't many violence scenes in the movie, its focuses more to the feeling of terror, element of surprise. Viewers are not required to have good imagination to understand the story. Some scenes can be a little disturbing for certain viewers, like when the possessed human starts to change become horrible looking demon or human in twisted shape, etc.
So, I think if you like horror movies, I think you should give this one a go. Beware of mirrors (Mwua ha ha ha ha).
Advantages: Cam Gigandet with his shirt off, Gary Oldman, good story Disadvantages: Not at all scary, more comical, could have done a lot more

Casey turns to help from her best friend Romy (Meagan Good), her boyfriend Mark (Cam Gigandet - gorgeous!) and Rabbi Sendak (Gary Oldman) to try and drive the demon away. Supposedly meant to be a 'superior, shiver-inducing fright-fest', The Unborn is nothing of the sort. If you go and ...

...night so I popped to the local Blockbuster and picked up a copy of The Unborn..... ==The Plot== Casey Beldon starts to have horrific nightmares, which contain visions of a strange looking dog (that wears a mask?), and an evil zombie looking little boy. One evening Casey is baby sitting at her neighbours house. She hears Matty (the neighbours little boy) chatting over the baby monitor. When she goes upstairs to check on Matty, and his newborn baby ... ...face,getting him to look at the reflection. Weirdly Matty suddenly turns and attacks Casey with the mirror stating "Jumby wants to be born now". The next day, Casey's friend, Romy, tells her of a superstition involving newborns and mirrors: "they shoudn't see their reflections for at least a year". Advantages: Great story, decent special effects and very unique Disadvantages: Some 'off' acting in parts, can become a little boring
The Unborn is about an evil spirit from another world seeking revenge. Is it possible to be haunted by someone who has never been born? - It tries to slowly take possesion of her body.
The Unborn starts off quite mellow and put together, but soon explodes with questions as you get a little confused. It's a rather dark film with some really scary bits which make you jump a lot, but it deffinitly makes a good film. I really did jump at one point which ... ...number 1 goes to Friday the 13th (2009).
The storyline is extroidanary, nothing I've come across before. Like many people, I've seen movies which have people being haunted by ghosts and such, but this film is a spirit from a different world and involves twins from an unborn baby... how strange! I think the storyline is very clever and original as it's very different to any films people may class as similar. I must say though that nearer the end ...

Advantages: Gary Oldman Disadvantages: Everything else!
You may have noticed the poster for The Unborn, which boasts Odette Yustman's perfectly-shaped ass as the main feature of this supposedly frightful, supernatural horror-thriller. That's about right. Yustman does spend a majority of the movie prancing about in her underwear, attempting to look frightened by the number of threatening visions that have entered into her life. And while that will no doubt appeal to horny, heterosexual teenage boys -- ... ...to find out that it's the fault of the Nazis. Apparently, it's their fault that one of Casey's relatives turned into a mythical Jewish demon, named Dybbuk, and now wants to make her life a living hell. Erm, okay then... Probably the most confusing thing, though, is the very respectable Gary Oldman starring in what feels like a bad remake of The Exorcist -- a shoddy film in its own right. Such a credible actor deserves no place in this cheap, generic, ...

Advantages: Truely freaky and a bit scary Disadvantages: may require a change of underwear at several points
I had the chance to see this movie just a few days ago and i can honestly say that there were a few moments where i tensed up. I am a big fan of horror movies and consider them to be my favourite genre, so when I say I jumped you can imagine that doesn't happen too often. The acting is better than i expected, and the moments where I was jumpy were absolutey fantastic, it really does catch you off guard. This spliced with a very strong story line ... ...time spent under experimentation by the Nazis in WW2 makes for a very science/occult line to the film. The special effects are superb, there's a scene with a boy in a bathroom cabinet that had the friend sitting next to me jump out of her seat. All through the film there are good uses of special effects, i don't like telling people what these are in the story, but a man and a dog with their heads backwards and a disfigured mother (to say the least) ...

Filmmaker David Goyer goes beyond THE INVISBLE and into THE UNBORN with this creepy thriller. Odette Yustman (CLOVERFIELD) stars as Casey Beldon, a young woman who can't escape vivid nightmares and a frightening spirit. Joined by the wise Sendak (Gary Oldman), Casey discovers that her family has been plagued for decades by a spirit who has the power to possess any object or person.
Something arresting happens with The Unborn, attired in its generic, hand-me-down title. It actually scares you (Time Out, New York, 09/01/2009)
DVD Description
College student Casey Beldon (Odette Yustman, CLOVERFIELD) begins having dreams about a spooky little boy with bright blue eyes. She thinks nothing of it as first, but when the image becomes a recurring motif and the boy she babysits for hits her in the face and tells her 'Jumby wants to be born now', she begins to get frightened. After learning that she had a twin brother who died in utero, she finds a photo of her late mother with the same ghostly child looming in the background. A newspaper clipping then leads Casey to visit an elderly Holocaust survivor (Jane Alexander) in a nursing home. The woman clues her in to a dark family secret extending back to WWII, which prompts her to employ the services of Rabbi Sendak (Gary Oldman), whose scepticism about evil spirits is vanquished when he sees what he is up against.
