I finally got to see this film. I’d seen the adverts for it ages ago but it was never in my local video rental shop and I was tempted to buy it as it is only £7.99 on DVD. Anyway I finally found a copy and sat down with my sweets and beverage.
>>>>Plot<<<<
Frank Martin is an ex-military man living a peaceful life off his military pension in France, at least that’s what he wants you to think.
Actually Frank is “The Transporter”, working on a freelance basis (this is not Royal Mail) delivering packages. Frank is a perfectionist and is very particular about every aspect of his job, living by 3 simple rules:
1 Once a deal has been made the terms of that deal cannot be changed or renegotiated. 2 No Names 3 Never open the package
The thing about the type of package that Frank delivers is that it can be anything, usually anything but legal. Every aspect
of every job is planned to precision, and Frank makes sure everything goes to plan. The only problem is that Frank’s latest delivery is a human. He breaks rule 3 and suddenly it’s clear why he lives by these rule! Now he’s going to have to use all his military training to stay alive.
>>>>Characters<<<<
By no means is this an all star cast. However, the film is directed by the well respected Corey Yuen.
Cast with actual names! Jason Statham - Frank Martin Qi Shu - Lai Matt Schulze - 'Wall Street' François Berléand - Tarconi Ric Young - Mr. Kwai
>>>>My Opinion<<<<
To be honest my expectations were quite high, I’d seen the trailer and it looked good and I wanted to watch a decent action film as I’ve not seen a decent one for a while.
The film starts with Frank (Jason Statham) smartly dressed in a black suit, driving his black BMW 735 though the French streets, he then stops and picks up a group of armed robbers and what follows is a well planned and enjoyable chase scene. Frank’s next job is to deliver a package to “Wall Street” (Matt Schulze), but it all starts to go wrong when Frank opens the package (Qui Shu).
That’s all I’m going to say about the film because I don’t want to ruin anything for anyone who wants to watch it.
I said that I wanted to watch a decent action film, and that’s what this is. It’s not the best film I’ve ever seen and it’s by no means anywhere near the worst. I’ve seen some pretty bad reviews of this film and I think unjustly so.
The film has a good mix of chase and fight scenes with a little humour thrown in too. The fight scenes are well structured and not so unrealistic that you laugh at them. Every time there is gun fire you can see the path of the bullets, which is actually quite cool. There are some really interesting fighting techniques and sequences and Jason Statham makes for a good action star and puts in a good performance.
The acting on whole is not exceptional and why Jason Statham decided to adopt a ridiculous accent I do not know, I think it would have worked a lot better with his own accent, but I guess it is an American film, but that’s still not a very good excuse! I quite enjoyed the film and wasn’t clock watching at all during it.
The soundtrack on the film is pretty decent too, no real big time tunes but some good music that goes well with the tone of the situation.
>>>>Conclusion<<<<
Basically if you want a decent action film, with no airy fairy business, then I can’t see any reason why you wouldn’t enjoy The Transporter. The sequel is now in post production and I for one am looking forward to see if they have improved on a pretty sturdy platform.
>>>>DVD Extras<<<<
To be honest there aren’t that many extras on this DVD, but its not the end of the world.
Film commentary by Jason Statham and producer Steven Chasman Making of featurette 3 extended fight scenes with optional commentary
>>>>Running time<<<<
The film is rated 15 and has a running time of 1 hour and 29 minutes.

I saw this on DVD and I thought it was really good, especially considering it has such an unknown cast. Much better than that pap the rock keeps inflicting us with.
