The Transporter is the first in the trilogy of brilliant action movies starring Jason Statham, The Transporter is followed Transporter 2 (2005 ) & the aptly named Transporter 3 (2008) which I am yet to see. However I?m here to talk about the film that started it all, The Transporter was released 2nd October 2002 & was greeted with a mixed reception from the critics, the film had an average of a 53% rating which means just over half of the critics liked it. One thing that I read about the reception is that one critic remarked that it had too much action? it?s an action film what do you expect?! Most people will moan when there?s not enough now there?s people moaning that there?s too much!
Despite it?s average reception the film did quite well at the box office, grossing an estimated $43,928,932 on a budget of $20,900,000. The Transporter is rated a 15 which is to be expected & it runs for approximately 94 minutes.
The Transporter is directed by Louis Leterrier & Corey Yuen. Louis Leterrier is most famous for directing this film, the first sequel & Fearless, a martial arts film starring Jet Li & Morgan Freeman. Corey Yuen, the more well known of the two is great friends with martial arts legend Jackie Chan. He?s considered to be one of the top action directors in the business & with using this film as an example I can see why. He?s also worked on; Game Of Death II starring Bruce Lee which was released after his death, Hero & DOA: Dead Or Alive.
As I mentioned earlier this film features Jason Statham, I?ve got to say that I really like Jason Statham he?s a really good actor but besides that there?s something really sexy about him! He?s featured in films such as; The Bank Job, Death Race, War, Snatch & The Italian Job. Jason Statham started off as a world champion diver (how random is that) which explains the body, he was also a model. His breakthrough into films came when he met Guy Ritchie by chance & he ended up casting him in his film Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels which was a huge success in 1998.
The Transporter revolves around Frank Martin, an ex special forces operative who now works as a transporter, delivering anything & everything on time with exact precision, no questions asked. Frank is offers a job which he accepts, the package is put into the boot of his car & he sets off on his way to deliver it. Frank is very meticulous with his job & always follows some simple rules, one of which is to never look in the package. When Frank hears numerous disturbances coming from the boot of his car curiosity gets the better of him & as soon as he opens the package he immediately wishes he hadn?t.
I personally love this film, it?s not something that I was expecting to like but caught it on TV one night by chance, it had already been on a while but it immediately caught my attention & I ended up watching right through to the end which is unusual for me as I?m one of those people that can?t miss the beginnings of films! Upon seeing this for the first time I had heard of Jason Statham but wasn?t too familiar with him, I was extremely impressed with his performance in this film, granted there isn?t too much acting in it but the action & hand to hand combat scenes were fantastic & I was immediately gripped. After watching this I looked for it on the internet & found it cheap so ordered it & when it arrived I watched it all the way through with my Dad as it?s more his kind of film that mine & he too was really impressed with it.
The story with this isn?t too strong but that isn?t really the main appeal of this film & to my surprise neither is seeing Jason Statham with his shirt off! If you want a really strong storyline that you can be gripped by then this sadly isn?t the film for you, if you want an all out action movie that doesn?t slow for one minute then this is definitely the film for you. This does actually have a decent story to it, with so many films like this the stories are very weak & they rely on the action alone to keep people interested but this actually has a good storyline & in some ways it can be quite controversial as it?s about a touchy subject that was handled well. It also sheds light on something that I & I?m sure a lot of other people weren?t aware was still going on, yes this movie is just a movie & not based on truth but the plot line is good.
If you?re someone that?s into action films then I would highly recommend this, if you?re a fan of Jason Statham as I am then I would also recommend this. This is one of his best films to date & I?m really looking forward to seeing the third instalment of this film when it?s released on DVD next month.
One thing that I noticed upon buying this DVD is the lack of special features, there?s only three on there which to some people I?m sure will be disappointing however I didn?t buy it solely for the bonus features so that kind of thing doesn?t really bother me too much. The DVD includes; Audio Commentary Making- Of Featurette Extended Fight Sequences
The Transporter is currently available from play.com for £4.99 which is a brilliant price.
Advantages: great action packed movie from start to finish Disadvantages: none really
...a transporter of anything, if the money's right.
*BRIEF PLOT*
Frank Martin, (played by Jason Statham) is a delivery driver, only the packages he delivers are not your usual packages, they consists of anything from drugs to people.
He is such a perfectionist at his job that he constructs his 'getaway' vehicles specially for each delivery, with some brilliantly dangerous consequences and even has rules which he religiously sticks to… With Frank ... ...harder as he is under the constant observation of Inspector Tarconi, (played by Francois Berleand)… who is convinced Frank is up to no good… The trouble really starts for Frank when he collects a package which he has to transport to Darren Bettencourt, (played by Matt Schulze), a rather insane man who has other plans for the delivery man… only for Frank to have other ideas, seeking revenge against his new enemy… only to end up with a new and rather ...

The Transporter Review ofThe Transporter (DVD)by

Advantages: great action packed movie Disadvantages: short film
this film is the story of Frank (played by Jason Statham) who for a living is a transporter of various items and sometimes people. so far his career is going well and he has built up a nice life for himself until one fine day he makes the mistake of breaking one of his 3 rules he looks in the package and he finds a young woman called Lai. the trouble then begins because the people for whom he is transporting this person (who is a v.bad actress) realise ... ...himself and Lai. overall the story is very easy to figure out and yes the acting isnt very good but i still think this film deserves a good rating because the faction scenes in this movie are the best ive ever seen. the car chases, the various objects being blown and the choreography of the fight scenes are great and in the end make this film very enjoyable to watch. ...

Advantages: No nonsense film with decent action sequences Disadvantages: Apart from the two lead characters acting is not the best
...I finally got to see this film. I?d seen the adverts for it ages ago but it was never in my local video rental shop and I was tempted to buy it as it is only £7.99 on DVD. Anyway I finally found a copy and sat down with my sweets and beverage.

Frank Martin is an ex-military man living a peaceful life off his military pension in France, at least that?s what he wants you to think.
Actually Frank is ?The Transporter?, working on a freelance basis (this is not Royal Mail) delivering packages. Frank is a perfectionist and is very particular about every aspect of his job, living by 3 simple rules:
1 Once a deal has been made the terms of that deal cannot be changed or renegotiated.
2 No Names
3 Never open the package
The thing about the type of package that Frank delivers is that it can be anything, usually...

Advantages: Fast paced, action filled, stunts galore, martial arts abound Disadvantages: Little story and no great acting... but who cares :o)
...Transporter was a very minor hit in the cinemas but obviously made good money on the release of the DVD as the eponymous 'Transporter', played by Jason Statham, returns for a second bout of high octane action. Transporter 2 is full of what you would expect? unbelievable car chases, innovative and exciting stunts, some cracking fight scenes, a villainess who spends most of her time in lingerie and a ludicrous plot? in fact everything that makes a perfect switch your mind off Friday night movie!
This time the Transporter has a nice easy driving job, looking after the young son of a famous politician. He drives him back and forth to school and wherever he, or his mother, would like to go. Of course not everything goes as smoothly and the Transporter finds himself caught up in a criminal masterminds incredible plan, one that involves...

Advantages: Statham, Shu and Schulze Disadvantages: The dodgy accent they gave Statham
...Frank Martin (Jason Statham) is a Transporter, he gets paid to take packages from one place to another. His rules are simple, he doesn?t want to know any names and he never opens a package. That is until now as Frank is moving a package he makes the mistake of looking in side and finds Lai (Oi Shu) tied up inside. From that moment on Frank and Lai are in serious trouble and Frank has to keep looking over his shoulder to keep them both alive but can Frank stop the man threatening to kill him.
Ever since his debut appearance in Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels I?ve found myself strangely drawn to movies starring Jason Statham. You know before you even switch them on that you?re about to get an hour and a half to two hours of enjoyable action movie. After a couple of previous roles it was this film that really seemed to launch Statham...

Jason Statham (SNATCH) stars in this fast-paced and very loud thriller that was written specifically for him by French filmmaker Luc Besson. Statham plays Frank Martin, a former Special Forces operative who is now a high-priced courier paid to deliver packages he would rather know nothing about. His creed: never change the deal, never use names, and never look in the package. But when he finds out that his latest delivery is a beautiful young woman (Shu Qi), everything changes, and he is off on a wild chase that includes plenty of explosions, bare-knuckle fighting, cool weaponry, and tongue-in-cheek humour. Hong Kong director Corey Yuen who has previously worked with Jet Li lets the action tell the story as Frank battles the bad guys in the streets of France to a score by renowned jazz great Stanley Clarke.
