TItanic is a 1997 film directed by James Cameron based on the true tragic story of the Unsinkable ship ; Titanic.
The Titanic was a ship sailing from Liverpool (United Kingdom) across the North Atlantic to New York. However on April 14th 1912 , when crossing the Atlantic Ocean , the unsinkable ship hit an iceburg. This caused the ship to sink. There were approx 2,227 passengers aboard the Titanic.

* Titanic - the film *
Although the actual film is based on a true story , the actual romantic storyline of the film was not true.

* Some of the Characters *

Jack Dawson - ( Leonardo Di Caprio )
A 20 year old American with no family. He's very poor and is a keen artist. He has no home and travels from place to place. He won his ticket onto the titanic in a game of cards.

Rose DeWitt Bukater - ( Kate Winslet )
Rose is a 17 year old girl from the higher class. She's travelling aboard the Titanic with her mother and her husband-to-be Cal. She does not really want to get married to Cal because he treats her badly but is doing so in order to please her mother and so that they can stay in "money". In the film her mother Ruth says how when Rose's father died he left them with many debts and so they were left with little money , so now they only have his good name to live by , and therefore that is why she wants her daughter to marry Cal because he is a millionnaire. Rose is different to her mother because she cares about other people , including those less fortunate than her.

Caledon "Cal" Nathan Hockley - ( Billy Zane )
He is Rose's husband to be. He is a very rich man. He's very selfish and only cares about himself. He is a very controlling man and uses her money to get what he wants.

Ruth DeWitt Bukater - (Frances Fisher)
Ruth is Rose's mother . She tries to control Rose but Rose is determined not to let her and shows her up a few times in the film. Her mother is selfish and doesn't care about other people ; opposite to how her daughter sees things.

Fabrizio De Rossi - Danny Nucci
Fabrizio is an Italian and a good friend of Jack. He's a member of the third class and was with Jack when they won the Titanic tickets.

Tommy Ryan - ( Jason Barry )
Tommy is one of Jack's friends who he meets on the titanic and they become good friends. He is Irish and also a member of the third class. He doesn't think Jack will get Rose because Jack is of the lower class and Rose is of the higher class , however he is please for his friend when he gets the girl he wants.

Spicer Lovejoy - ( David Warner )
In the film , he's refered to as Lovejoy most of the time .I don't think anyone calls him Spicer. He is Cal's sidekick and appears to be against Jack and Rose's affair more than Cal! He keeps a close eye on Rose's whereabouts and dislikes Jack. He is a horrid man.

Brock Lovett - ( Bill Paxton )
Brock is one of the men who is researching the history of the titanic and recovers a painting.

100-year old Rose Dawson Calvert - ( Gloria Stuart )
Rose Dawson is 100 years old. She is the older version of the other Rose. Here she tells of her experience aboard the Titanic 84 years later.

* Storyline *

It is a romantic film. Jack Dawson meets Rose Dewitt Bukater when he saves her when she's trying to take her own life. There is a spark between them and after this event they cannot keep away from eachother. This then results in a love affair even though Rose is engaged to Cal. Will Jack and Rose's affair continue or will Cal put a stop to it ? Will Jack and Rose survive or go down with the Titanic ? Watch Titanic to find out!

* My opinion *

Titanic is one of my favourite films. It has a great and well thought of storyline. There are some great characters , from Rose's caring personality to Cal's stuck up attitude. This film is great for all kinds of genre fans from action to romance. The events are cleverly linked.The film is suitable for over 12s however it may be best to watch it with an adult because it is a very sad film. It made me cry the first time I watched it. There are some nude scenes and some swearing in the film.

I think this film is interesting due to the fact that it contains both fact and fiction. I think both genres are blended really well together. I also think the comparison between the rich and poor is good,
There is some great acting in the film. Cal plays a stuck up rich man really well and Jack plays " the poor guy" really well. My favourite character is Jack because he is so sweet and caring and genuinely loves Rose and is not after her money. He's also very good looking!

I would strongly recommend watching this film if you have not yet seen it.

* Quotes from the film *

Rose Dawson : It was the ship of dreams to everyone else. To me it was a slave ship, taking me back to America in chains. Outwardly, I was everything a well brought up girl should be. Inside, I was screaming.

Rose Dawson : :Afterward, the seven hundred people in the boats had nothing to do but wait: wait to die, wait to live, wait for an absolution which would never come

Fabrizio: I can see the Statue of Liberty already!... Very small, of course.

Cal Hockley: My fian... my fiancée! Yes, you are, and my wife. My wife in practice if not yet by law, so you will honor me. You will honor me the way a wife is required to honor a husband. Because I will not be made a fool, Rose. Is this in any way unclear?

Cal Hockley: My fian... my fiancée! Yes, you are, and my wife. My wife in practice if not yet by law, so you will honor me. You will honor me the way a wife is required to honor a husband. Because I will not be made a fool, Rose. Is this in any way unclear?

Cal Hockley: Any room for a gentleman? Gentlemen?

Thanks for reading! Hope this has been of interest to you!
