Hubby saw this film advertised when we watch another Disney one a few weeks ago and said it looked good so we ended up buying it. I have to admit that it was a great choice as I really did enjoy the film.
The film stars Mickey Donald and Goofy who are working as cleaners for the Captain of the Musketeers. Mickey has spent his life dreaming of when he will be a Musketeer himself but the Captain has no intention of letting any of them join as he thinks they are stupid. Mickey was given a Musketeer hat when he was little as he was brave when being bullied by some bad boys and he constantly wears this hat to help him go after his dream.
The Captain is an evil man and he plans to become King but to do this he has to kidnap the Princess, played by Minnie Mouse, and keep her away from the Opera where he than then declare that he is the new King. He sets his helpers the task of Kidnapping her but things go wrong and Princess Minnie
then goes to see him and demands that she is given Musketeer bodyguards. As the Captain want Princess Minnie kidnapped he decides that he will make Mickey, Donald and Goofy Musketeers and give them the job of protecting her as he believes that they are so useless he will still be able to go ahead with his plan.
Mickey, Donald and Goofy are all so excited about becoming Musketeers and protecting the Queen but thing go horribly wrong for them when they are on duty and the Princess does get kidnapped. Will the new Musketeers be able to rescue the Princess and stop the Captain becoming the King?
This was a lovely film which had me laughing out loud at some parts. The story was great and it gave a completely different take on previous Three Musketeer films which I though was good. The animation which was used throughout the film was excellent and a lot of time and effort was put into this. The attention to detail was very noticeable and helped to add to the film, there was always a lot going on in each shot which made it seem even more real. The story was set in France and this was apparent throughout the film and even though the main characters were not given French accents it did not spoil the film or the setting. I also found that the addition of other Disney characters was good, Pluto was as cute and funny as ever and Daisy was still very bossy!
I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the music in the film, There were a lot of songs and tunes which were well known but given different words to go with the film which I loved as it made it more fun for children to watch. The music without lyrics was wonderful and managed to add to the drama and comedy of the story. I give a lot of credit to the musical director for such a grand job.
The start of the film introduced us to a tortoise who was narrating the story, he was not constantly narrating the film but he did keep making appearances in the film and kept us up to date with events and I think this was very helpful to my boys as it made it easier for them to understand what was happening. He was also a fun character who added some good funny bits.
My boys did enjoy this film and they too did laugh out loud at some the funny things which Goofy got up to. They did manage to sit and watch the whole thing without loosing interest which is definitely a bonus for me as it meant I got to watch all of it in peace as well!
The DVD which I have does have some bonus material which includes:-
Produce your own Opera ‘The Many Hats of Mickey’ Get the scoop Deleted scenes Character Audio Commentary Disney Song selection
We have not managed to watch any of these features as my boys had no interest in them and neither did I actually.
The running time of this film is 65 minutes which I found to be a great length as it kept my boys attention from start to finish where as if it was any longer I don’t think they would have managed to sit still for it all. The certificate on the film is a Universal which means it is suitable for all and I do definitely agree with this. There are some sword fights and mild peril in the film but noting which would frighten any one. I picked up this DVD from EBay for the bargain price of £2.49 and it is also available on Amazon for just under £4.
I do recommend this film to everyone as it is a great light hearted film which is suitable for the whole family to sit together and watch.
