Sometimes you have to question the reason why some film's are re-made, most can never live up to the original but some make a good attempt and take advantage of the changes in society and cinema to make them worthwhile.
The Thomas Crown Affair is one of those re-makes that actually is quite decent. The reason it works is mainly because the two leads are both in the same age range and have some very heated sexual chemistry between them. That's what this film is, sexy and classy.
Pierce Brosnan plays Thomas Crown, a playboy billionaire who looks for some thrills in his life by stealing a priceless painting in broad daylight from underneath the noses of tight security. Enter Insurance investigator Catherine Banning (Rene Russo) who is hired to retrieve the painting and is hot on Crown's tail which leads to a very hot game of cat and mouse where the two realize they are equal in loving the thrill of the chase.
The film twists and turns at every stage wiht some great scenes and a real sense of class throughout the whole thing. Did I mention that it's incredibly sexy ? There's also chance to see Brosnan and Russo in the buff, pleasing to both sexes eyes I think you'd agree.
The dvd has a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer that is very good with some striking rich colour and no real defects.
The sound is a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix that makes some good uses of rears whenever there is action and also the jazz tinged score is well mixed as well.
As for the extras, well the region 2 dvd actually beats the region 1 for a change. First up is a 24 minute 'making of' filled with interviews and behind the scenes footage. It's not fantastic and feels a bit promotional but it's better than most of the usual dull 5 minute affairs.
Next is a music video for Sting's cover of Windmills of Your mind. It's merely clips from the film backed to the song and personally I loathe sting's music but fans will appreciate it.
Director John McTiernan provides an audio commentary for the film that is interesting in places with some good detail about how the film was out together. At times though he is a bit silent.
Finally there is the trailer and an 8 page booklet with production notes on the film. All this is wrapped up in some nice animated menus that revolve around and art gallery.
This is a film worth checking out especially if you're an adult sick of seeing those films where the romance is all too easy or the man is far too old for the woman.

It's a while since I saw this but I enjoyed it. It was very stylish - although I did think that Pearce Brosnan was a poor choice as he plays the part like he plays James Bond.
