The combination of Faye Dunaway and Steve McQueen is I believe inspired. The sheer concept of McQueen playing a bored rich dilettante is a real step away from his normal roles. Dunaway plays her sultry self to the extreme once more in her role of an investigator for the insurance underwriters of bank that McQueen' character robs.

Whilst she tries to catch McQueen out, Dunaway enters a relationship with him. Initially it is simply part of the job, getting the result her employers want but then she allows herself to become emotionally involved and as a result McQueen runs rings around her.

McQueen is not immune to Dunaways' charms though and the relationship begins to blossom. Sensing that the robbery he had committed out of boredom could be the death of the one thing he has finally found meaning in he then astounds everybody with his next action.

Using the people that he had employed to commit the crime in the first place, none of which knew each other he replaces the money that he stole in the opening scenes of the film.

Of the two versions of this film I have to say that the first is more appealing. The second relies too much on Brosnan's remoteness with Rene Russo being too much of a carbon copy of Dunaway.
