This is a movie for girls. Brosnan does the pseudo-schmooth thing a bit too much really doesn't he - that unfettered masculinity combined with the gentle touch of a real smoothy. Doesn't it just make your skin crawl? And as for the girl from x-files lookalike - very disappointing throughout. Pandering to his whim, they sttike off such a chemistry that encourages his poncing around and barely carried the plot. This movie is so much of a chicks will dig it movie that I'm not sure why they don't just have a great big sticker on the front saying 'if you're a man, go watch something else, such as a bond movie, perhaps an episode of prisoner, or read the book' - ok - because it would cut sales, but you see my point - it's devised with so little polt which relates to the actrual story, and it centres around just him, tying things in around however he would look cinematographically good - well I for one have seen enough of his wry grin, raised eyebrow and buns (as I understand las chickiewickies of the day say of his bum). Next time - get a director who doesn't fancy him, please! More violence, more psycological drams and a touch of tension - relate it more to the key elements of the book - that's what made the book interesting, not just a resemblance of the same plot, with none of the emotional tangles or involvment. Poor result, but would have been great if called something else. Similar to the Stone Roses Glastonbury 98 perfomance really, excpet they shouldn't have headlined - the expectation was further increased by that, which draws out another aspect of the disappointment caused by the film - the trailer was so good.
