Michael Bay (ARMAGEDDON, PEARL HARBOR), this remake begins in the same place as the original. Five friends are driving through Texas on their way to a concert in Dallas. But when they stop to pick up a hitchhiker, their trip takes a turn for the worse. The friends--Erin (Jessica Biel), Kemper (Eric Balfour), Morgan (Jonathan Tucker), Pepper (Erica Leerhsen), and Andy (Mike Vogel)--have no idea what they're in for when they ask the local sheriff (R. Lee Ermey) for help. It isn't long before the blood begins to pour and the notorious chainsaw of the maniacal, murderous Leatherface starts to roar.Although considered relatively low budget (9.5 million) by 2003 moviemaking standards, Nispel's remake is worlds away from the no-budget feel of Hooper's original. Where that film left much of the actual gore off camera, Nispel and Bay up the ante by showing every death in all its gruesome detail building to a final act that is relentless and terrifying. Tobe Hooper's enduring original TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE appeared like a nightmare in 1974, establishing a whole new genre of horror film and thirty years later it's back.

Tobe Hooper said that this film came to him in a quick flash in a hardware store and together with writing partner, Kim Henkel, wrote this masterpiece in three weeks, saying that it felt as though the picture was meant to be. Story After hearing vandals have desecrated a graveyard Sally's grandfather was buried at, Sally, her brother Franklyn and her three friends go to investagate traveling through the back roads of Texas. Things take a nasty turn when they pick up a hitch hiker outside of a slaughter house, attacking himself and Franklyn they throw him out. Soon after, in search of gasoline, they come across an old house which Sally's grandfather used to live in. When Pam and Kirk (Sally's friends) go in search of an old swimming hole, Kirk hears the sound of a generator and goes to investgate. What he find's is a dearranged family of cannaibal physcopaths, who are hunting them down one by one. What i love about the films story is it's simplicty, but it's done in such a manner that it is both beliavble and terrifing. There is so much suspense, it's easily understandable if your not used to this kind of picture it becomes very hard to watch. I at time's would cringe at the horrors at which this teenager's were forced to face. Now adays it's a little harder to understand how this had such an impact, but cinema auidences in the early seventies had only seen films about alien monsters, and eastern folk lore, never did they think they'd see anything like this. And still today this film stands high above others in the genre, not only as the creator but as the best
10/10
Charchter's You could pick faults with the acting, but this film was done with a low budget and the actors were not famous, just locals and friends from college. My favourite charchter was Leatherface, not an orignal choosing but what I love about charchters in films are the ones that create an impact and that's what Leatherface did.
8.5/10
Blood, Gore and Sex After watching this film you think you've just witinesed a blood bath of gore, but the trurth is you haven't. Alot of the gore is in the mind, just knowing these cruels acts are happening, give you the building blocks and with them you make it terrifing. Which is fantastic, a film that can achieve this, truly has mastered the art of horror, which i feel alot of films now adays just carnt compete with.
10/10
So is it a good movie? - To call this film good would be an understatement, this movie was groundbreaking and still today it terrifies auidenicies. If you haven't seen this film yet, you have never watched a horror movie. Forget the acting, forget that seventies quailty, this film at its heart is a work of art, a film that hasn't been matched since and may never be.

Banned for years I ran hot footed to the store to get my copy. At last The TexasChainsawMassacre on DVD. After a quick run home I popped the disk in the machine and settled down for an evening of good olf fashioned family violence. What did I get? One of the worst films I have ever seen.
This is a really cheap, and really nasty film that in no way deserves the hype that surrounds it. The cast are no names (even though that shouldn't matter), and even though there are buckets of blood, it's the story that lets things down. I'm not looking for Kafka here but what is going on? Why is Leatherface there? What's his motivation (that sounds poncy but stick with me)? Is he just in a bad mood because nobody cleaned the house? I don't expect masterclasses in emoting but I just didn't get it - the cast just get butchered for no reason ...
Advantages: R. Lee Ermey, very watchable Disadvantages: Pretty much everything else!
watch pretty much anything on the big screen why would I take the time to watch this on DVD? I'll get to that later!
TCM is set in 1973, 5 young twenty somethings are travelling across the country to get to a concert. On their way they pick up a young woman walking listlessly down the road. She tells them that they are all going to die, that he will kill them all! They find themselves out in the middle of rural Texas, Travis County being terrorised by the maniacal Leatherface, a chainsaw wielding killer.
There really is no need for any more of the plot than that, that is pretty much it, much like most slasher horror movies! Plot is generally incidental in any film of this genre, all is needed is a supply of victims and a way of getting them to the killer/killers. Once this is done it is just a case of who is going to die next and who ...
Advantages: Ed Gein Documentary DVD extra Disadvantages: Only moderately scarry
So Hallowe'en night, the obligatory somewhat pathetic partying has ended it's about 1o'clock in the morning so decide to put this on and live the Hallowe'en atmosphere.
THE STORY
It's 1973 and the film starts with a filmed walk through of the crime scene of the ChainsawMassacre and before it can really get started we are thrown towards the past and 5 young people coming back from partying in Mexico to go see a Lynrd Skynrd concert somewhere in Texas, when suddenly they meet a young female hitch hiker who keeps crying and is more than abit erratic. They pick her up and start driving in the direction she came from which made little sense to me but hey. She starts screaming your going the wrong way (why did they pick her up if they weren't going to go her way? Why?). She then gets over excited pulls a gun from the heer groin ...

DVD Description
A quiet summer drive through rural Texas ends in violent tragedy when several youths encounter a chainsaw-wielding psychopathic killer and his demented family. Tobe Hooper's gruesome tale of terror is loosely based on the Ed Gein killings, which actually occurred in Plainsfield, Wisconsin. Shot in a neo-documentary style, this incredibly influential horror film spawned numerous sequels and imitations.
