mastermind Doctor Mabuse (RudolfKlein-Rogge) has scribbled his last will and testament: a manifestoestablishing a future empire of crime. When the documents nefarious writings start leading toterrifying parallels in reality, its up to Berlins stardetective, Inspector Lohmann (Otto Wernicke, reprising his rolefrom M) to connect the most fragmented, maddening clues in a caseunlike any other. A sequel to his enormously successful silent film Dr. Mabuse:The Gambler, Fritz Lang's The Testament of Dr. Mabuse reunites thedirector with the character that had effectively launched hiscareer. Lang put slogans and ideas expounded by the Nazis into themouth of a madman, warning his audience of an imminent menace, which was soon to become a reality. Nazi Minister of Information Joseph Goebels saw the film as aninstruction manual for terrorist action against the government andbanned it for "endangering public order and security." Advantages: 1st in the series, a good bond Disadvantages: can be a little slow
James Bond, the suave, sophisticated, womanising and deadly British agent from MI6 with a licence to kill. I don't think that there is a soul that has not at least heard of this legendary character. Starting it's movie life way back in 1962 with Dr No, and currently on its 21st official movie (Not including Never say never again which is not classed as an official James Bond movie), Casino Royale which has just been released at the cinema, surely this is one of the most successful if not THE most successful book to film series ever.
Everyone has their favourite bond out of the six actors that have played him. After having seen Daniel Craig in the new Casino Royale I am thinking that he may be very close to the top of my list, if not THE top, although there were questions about him not being "Bond" like, however It's worth mentioning ...
Advantages: Clear picture and remastered soundtrack. Disadvantages: Considerable reuse of older extra's.
When I read that the Bond films were being re-released I though here we go again, another money spinner. Having bought all the "Special Editions" a couple of years ago, I was very dubious about spending loads of money to repurchase them.
However, when I read about the difference in quality between the special and ultimateedition my curiosity was peaked. I decided to purchase the first movie, Dr No and watch it to see if there was a marked difference as I had read about.
Well to say the quality is a massive improvement is a little bit of an understatement. The special edition was basically a transfer from the original film to DVD with some special features bolted onto the side. The Ultimateedition has basically gone back to the original film, transferred it to a computer and then each frame was edited, frame by frame, to ...
Advantages: A throughly enjoyable read with a decent original storyline Disadvantages: May take too long to get going for some people.
To continue on the theme of John Grisham books comes the next one I found on my shelf as I work through all the old Books I’ve read. In fact looking at my bookcase there are more books by him in there than any other author, which I suppose really shows the kind of effect The Brethren had on my reading habits. The Testament is another of my favourite books by Grisham. As far as I’m aware before we go any further, this is one of the few yet to be turned into a film.
As a former Lawyer Grisham bases most of his books on this field and although at first this probably doesn’t sound appealing he somehow manages to bring it to live and turn it into a gripping read. He pulls on his own knowledge of law and criminal proceedings in such a way that it makes it interesting to read and simple to understand. And although ...
The sequel to 'Dr Mabuse, The Gambler', this picks up the story ten years later. The master criminal Dr Mabuse has been held at an asylum for a decade but is still managing to direct his crime syndicate. Fully restored and digitally remastered. German dialogue with subtitles.

DVD Description
The tenuous and terrified atmosphere of Germany on the eve of Nazi ascendancy is cleverly evoked in Fritz Lang's THE TESTAMENT OF DR. MABUSE. The film opens with former police officer Hofmeister frantically warning police inspector Lohman of a mysterious gang's activity. He is especially insistent about the gang's leader, but is stopped in mid-confession before he can reveal the leader's identity. Dr. Baum runs the insane asylum where former arch criminal Dr. Mabuse is kept after going insane from his attempts to elude the police. After being incarcerated, Mabuse began writing reams of gibberish prose that gave complex instructions for how to commit crime sprees. When a fellow doctor confronts Dr. Baum with evidence that these exact crimes are coming true, he is mysteriously assassinated. Kent is an unwilling member of the gang and after taking their newest orders from a disembodied voice, he decides to leave the gang. Lohman continues to search for the identity of the gang's leader, as the crime sprees continue, and Mabuse's ghost begins to haunt Dr. Baum. As all of the characters speed chaotically towards the film's dark climax, the idea of a madman controlling a mass of hypnotised people and causing them to commit crimes that he premeditates creates a mystical and simultaneously potent political allegory of Lang's time.
