James Cameron's THE TERMINATOR is one of the tightest, tensest sci-fi films ever made and a landmark in the genre. In the year 2029, battles rage between the superintelligent...
more...machines that rule the world and the last vestiges of humanity. In late-20th-century Los Angeles, Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) suddenly finds herself stalked by an unstoppable killing machine--a Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) sent from the future to kill her and her unconceived son, John Connor, the future leader of the human resistance. Sarah can rely only on Reese (Michael Biehn), a soldier sent from the future to protect her from the seemingly indestructible Terminator and save humanity. This low-budget masterpiece was the breakthrough film for director Cameron, who weds special effects, thrills, and understated romance to create one of the finest action films of the 1980s, which spawned many imitations but few equals. Science fiction author Harlan Ellison sued over the film's similarities to his own works, especially the OUTER LIMITS episode "Demon with a Glass Hand," and won acknowledgement in the film's credits. Schwarzenegger will forever be known as the relentless Terminator, a heartless killing machine who returns (in a kinder, gentler form) in 1991's TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY.

This "Terminator" basically started a revolution in sci-fi motion pictures. It uses out of date special effects, but in its time was way a head of every other film. To be honest I did not even care about the special effects when watching it, due to its original and superd plot, and outstanding character casting. Arnold Schwarzenegger is basically the "Terminator" because of this film and the films that followed this film.

The DVD box looks good, very stylish and once opened there are two DVDs (disc 1, feature film, disc 2, special features). The special features include deleted scenes (very good), it has different trailers from all ofver the world, the producers (James Cameron's) artwork stills which are very interesting, to see how the terminator developed in his mind, it even has stills of the original treatment scripts.

Not only can this special features disk be used on a DVD player but it also has DVD-Rom special features, these include the complete final shooting script and the 1983 4th draft script.

To me this film is a must have. However if you are not a fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger and/or sci-fi films then you may not like it but I feel that it is a definate must have in any persons DVD collection and this special addition DVD set is well worth getiing.

=================

PLOT

It begins in the year 2029, where these giant super computers called (skynet) dominate the planet, they are determined to exterminate the human race completly, but one man alone stands in their way this man is called John Connor.

The machines decide that in order to change the human races present life they have to change the human races past and in so doing they send a lone warrior called "The Terminator" back in time to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), who is the women whos unborn child will be the sole hope for mankinds future.

The rest of the film consists of Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese (a man sent back in time by the humans of the future to protect Sarah, <Michael Biehn>) being hunted by this unstopable machine, do they stop the unstopable? or will the human race be exstinguished by the very thing they have created?

This film is rated certificate 15.
