1985, Sarah Connor is living her life as a carefree waitress, until she realises that someone is systematically killing each Sarah Connor in the Los Angeles phone book and that someone is following her. But the man who is following her isn’t the one she should be worried about, the man following her is Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn) a solider fighting to save humanity sent back from the year 2029 to protect Sarah (Linda Hamilton) from the Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) a cybernetic killing machine sent to 1985 to terminate Sarah Connor before she can become the mother of John Connor the future leader of humanity. The film explodes (quite literally) into action when Reese and the Terminator have a huge shoot out in the local club killing nearly everyone in there, followed by Connor and Reese on the run from the Terminator which involves a lot of car chases, cool explosions and one of the most famous scenes in movie history, (you know the one) the Terminator walks into the police station and asks to see Sarah, the cop at the reception unknowingly tells him to wait, the Terminator looks around the room and says…. “I’ll be back” before driving a car straight through into the station! (If you cant wait for the classic moment just forward your counter to 0.56:36 or select chapter 18) While on the run Reese tells Connor that her son will be the leader of all humanity, in the fight against the machines, what the Terminator is and how they can stop it.
Not only is The Terminator a great action movie it’s also a love story between Kyle and Sarah but it doesn’t cross into the “chick flick” genre so it is enjoyable for everyone.
This is an amazing double disc set. Disc one contains the Movie, Still materials and DVD Rom features (scripts) Disc Two is where all the really juicy extras are. There are two documentaries on how the film was made “Terminator- a retrospective is basically Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron reminiscing, its not exactly a making of documentary but it does let you into some of the facts on what was done and why. Like how Arnold was originally up for the part of Kyle Reese but when he read the script he realised that the part of the terminator was for him and that as soon as Cameron saw Schwarzenegger he wanted him to play the terminator too. The “other voices” documentary is basically a collection of interviews with cast and crewmembers giving a detailed insight of how the movie was made. You can tell that some of the footage was taken some time ago (like of Schwarzenegger and Hamilton and some clips from the retrospective documentary) but that doesn’t really matter the documentary is well done and definitely is worth a look at least once. Disc two also has three trailers, TV spots, artwork; production notes more photos and seven “terminated” scenes The Movie it’s self has been re-mastered perfectly with a new 5.1 soundtrack that sounds amazing and will definitely give your system something to throw out with police sirens screaming around and gun shots everywhere. The Picture quality is great all be it very dark because it was nearly the entire movie was filmed at night (the documentaries explain why).
All in all The Terminator: Special Edition everything that makes DVD great. If you don’t already own this buy it now you won’t be disappointed.

Advantages: the best film ever? on a a great DVD?! you're damn right its true Disadvantages: the original 1984 subtitles do not appear at the beginning
Advantages: Uncommonly good storyline for an action film, super special effects, imaginative design, excellent value DVD Disadvantages: Many won't enjoy it for its occasionally-graphic violence
