Last night my boyfriend and me decided to check the new Steven Spielberg’s THE TERMINAL. As a big fan of his work I could say that this film is really great one.
Let me first tell you a little about the story. Its very simple and it could happen to everyone – you prepare your language, buy your return ticket and take a plane to some place you always wanted to go. And suddenly you are stuck in the airport. Moreover you need to survive there, while some people decide what they want to do with you and your life. The film is really simple, but amazingly interesting in its way of showing us how much we need to think and care more about the other people and how important are the people’s dream and promises.
THE TERMINAL is based on a true story of Merhan Nasseri, a refugee from Iran who was forced to stay at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris in 1988 after his passport and refugee papers were stolen. He stayed there for years, just lost in the crowd and when he was allowed to leave, he decided to stay in the terminal, and probably he still lives there. Sad isn’t it?!
In THE TERMINAL I love Tom Hanks play. He is brilliant and managed to attach you so much to his character Viktor Novorski, who is coming to New York from his little non-existing country Krakozhia. The one think I was so surprised was that he speaks very good Bulgarian. I don’t know why Spielberg chose my own home language for his film, but it was quite strange for me to watch the film and to have a feeling that I know better Mr. Novorski than anyone else in the cinema.
I think that you could understand more deeply the film only if you in some point of your life experienced the emotions THE TERMINAL hero had. He knows so little English that he answers every single question they asked him with a smile and with YES. I have no idea why is that, but I can tell you from en experience that it happens to everyone who could not understand the language.
I wont spoil the film for you telling you what Tom Hanks adventures are so I will stop writing about the main story. I just need to mention that there is very strong supporting cast surrounding Viktor Novorski, and there are a lot of little stories, which makes the film even more touching and charming.
The other main character in the film is Catherine Zeta-Jones. I am not her biggest fan and she didn’t disappoint me in THE TERMINAL. In my opinion she is not very good for the role and I didn’t particularly like her. Sorry!
The Terminal is a movie I could highly recommend to everyone.

Enjoyed the film, but thought it was a bit too long. Road to Perdition, the Lady Killers now The Terminal, all decent films with consistent quality. However to me they are nothing revolutionary. Hanks has always played oddballs in his films and does provide diversity for mainstream audiences, but I reckon his peak is yet to come. Puma1000
